There is nothing libertarian about hatred.
Edited on Wed Apr-21-10 03:38 AM by Skidmore
Recently, I have heard a new descriptor attached to these Teabaggers and their actions--libertarian. The idea that Teabaggers have a "libertarian bent" is ridiculous. Teabaggers, Birthers, or whatever the label of this group of malcontents, the contortions the right wing is twisting itself into to provide their hateful rhetoric with legitimacy is astounding. Hate speech and overt acts motivated by hatred are what they are. Trying to hide behind the flimsy figleaf of small government and even flimsier political label of "libertarian" is a conceit, at best. Whether that hatred is directed toward people of color women, or gays specifically or toward liberals/Democrats/progressives generally, it should be exposed at every opportunity. There is nothing civil about this hatred of the other, and it has no place in a civilized society. Be vigilant, because it is escalating and will continue to do so through the next two election cycles. November will be the dress rehearsal for 2012. We need to stand together, now more than ever. If we do not, this virulent hatred will be given legitimacy and possibly even be institutionalized. Witness the legislation being put out in Arizona, Utah, and other states where the Teabagger contingent have willing legislators participating in their depravity. Need I say more? We need to stand together.

2. These same republicon voters did the same exact thing after Bush 1
called themselves libertarian and when Clinton won the election they went on a anti Clinton rage. The major difference is McCain/Palin hate rallies gave them the impression that by banding together they could change the election results after all they were the "real" Americans, they just don't know how the Dem's cheated them out of their win. They are the clueless that saw all the racism and nit wittery at McCain/Palin rallies and mistook that as a sign that freedom of speech allowed them to finally speak their mind then were told nope they can't use the N word which is really why they are so angry.

3. Actually... every Libertarian I've met has been virulently racist
And I don't mean the liberals who like to call themselves libertarians because it makes them sound smarter (Go back to pretending to be Buddhist beat poets, guys). I mean actual libertarians.

They have no believe in the institution of "society" - they don't believe that the social situation a person begins and grows up in has any impact on them in their later life. Thus they look at statistics like the low college graduation rates among minorities, and the conclusion they draw? Brown people are dumb. it's not that affluence breeds affluence and poverty breeds poverty; that's "Class Warfare™" and so can't ever possibly be true. it has to be because white people are just superior.

The overwhelming majority are vibrant, vociferous supporters of the confederacy, and even the ones who aren't buy into the "state's rights" bullshit. As raving capitalists, most are active proponents of slavery; they don't base this on race or ethnicity, but on social class (which is odd, given their pretentions that neither society nor class actually exist). of course, brown people tend to have the lowest socioeconomic rung so... heh. That's what they get for being inferior, right?

I haven't met libertarians that hate gays. Most are okay with gay people. They're just not okay with the big, evil, smelly government "overstepping its bounds" and giving rights and protections to gay people. Honestly the distinction is a little too subtle for me, but they insist on it.

Hatred towards liberals isn't a feature of libertarianism? I've had libertarians get in my face and declare that there needs to be a violent, bloody purge of liberals from government. Most I've spoken to seem enamoured of an "us vs. them" bloody civil war. They insist that liberals are behind every single atrocity in human history - even ones that aren't fucking atrocities (My favorite? "Those poor people in Sweden are living in chattel slavery to the state! They don't know how fucking bad they have it, because of how brainwashed they've been by their liberal overlords!")

Libertarians are almost entirely defined by what they are against rather than what they are for; and what they are against tends to be anything and everything that provides a leg up or protections to anyone who's not a white male that shares their own bloody, anti-government, shark-capitalist outlook.

4. They're not libertarian, they're ultra-conservative.
It's possible there might have been an element of libertarianism in the movement when it first started. Over time they've drifted farther right each month. Now some of them even seem to hail Tim McVeigh as a hero or victim.

5. The fact that Republican Legislators, Candidates stand up and
affirm this behavior is horrific.

Let us remind the Republicans' When Anti-War participants
on the Left stepped over the line as perceived by Republicans
the Democrats on the Hill WERE FORCED to stand up in Senate
and House and condemn the activists for whatever it was
they said. The Democrats wete forced to distance themselves
from the behavior.

When MoveON did that Petreus ad, the Republicans on the Hill
had a field day as they and the Media forced the Dems on the
Hill to apologize and distance themselves from Move On.

Today we have Republicans Legislators affirming hate and some of them
putting out their own subtle and no so subtle hate.
The latest we have Black Helicopter Bachman calling Obama ADM.
" Gangster Government ". Of course there are much worse
things being said and the Republican Officials never call
their activists out on this.
