Republican forum?
Has anyone here ever joined a rethug forum just to put their opinions in the mix?

Did you let them know you are a liberal?

Did they figure it out and post attacks against you or ban you?

Did you manage to change anyone's mind about anything?

Sometimes I think I would like to join one just to post some facts that would mess with their whole way of thinking.

:dilemma:

1. It's casting pearls before swine IMO
Consider the audience: people open to new ideas don't infest a repug forum in the first place, so your presence would amount to nothing more than a target for ridicule & abuse. Is it *really* worth your time, trouble & energy to attempt convincing 1 in 10,000 of the error of their ways? You can lead a wingnut to ideas, but you can't make him think.

I frequent mixed boards, however, and I vigorously defend progressive principles, but it's never my goal to change the mind of the propellerheads with whom I argue; I know a lost cause when I see it. My comments are addressed to undecideds, as there's some probability that they can see the truth beyond what gets dished up by the corporate media. That's my recommendation; there's nothing to be gained from 'debating' these pinheads. Write your replies for the undecideds. Anything else is tilting at windmills.

2. Don't waste your time. Really.
I used to poke at threads over at Free Republic, as sort of an agent provocateur. It was a waste of my time and accomplished nothing. I finally got banned after posting a long exit post.

3. I get it.
To be honest, it wrecks my whole day sometimes when I hear a repub make a statement that is so totally untrue and ridiculous, but they insist it is true and even facts won't change their mind. I have enough stress without hunting for more. I just wondered if anyone ever joined one of their forums and made even the slightest bit of difference in how any of them thought.

4. There's no point. It's like wrestling with pigs.
You get shitty and the pigs enjoy it.

5. I used to, actually

In fact, I still have an account over on one; Haven't visited since the election, though.

I used to actually be able to get into some halfway interesting debates over there, then they started kicking out all the people who weren't flaming ideological purits. Oddly, they let the little liberal group stay, but anyone who so much as said the name "Ron" got banned.

Weird people.

I was also present on a right-libertarian board. That board closed down because its owners didn't pay the bills. Which I found hysterically ironic.
