Geico Voice Actor Fired After Insulting Tea Partiers
Edited on Wed Apr-21-10 03:00 PM by gatorboy
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/21/geico-fires-dc-douglas-vo_n_546038.html

Lance Baxter, better known as D.C. Douglas but perhaps best known as the voice of certain Geico commercials (primarily as the tag announcer of a 2007-2008 celebrity ad campaign) has been fired by the insurance company after leaving a voicemail for Tea Party group FreedomWorks.

Douglas asked FreedomWorks in his voicemail what "the percentage of people that are mentally retarded who are working for FreedomWorks and who are following it," or as he has since put it, he "inquired as to their intelligence level."

In the voicemail, Douglas also questions how FreedomWorks will "spin it when one of your members does actually kill somebody, wondering if you've got a PR spinning routine planned for that or are you just gonna take it when it happens."

1. I always hated that dumb gecko and wanted to step on it.
but now I'll have to be a fan of the voice over.

What a stupid reason to fire someone!

2. So, the moral of the story: don't leave your name and phone number or the other side will
seek to have you fired.

Can you imagine our side doing the same?

And funny, but they never answered about the PR. I'm kinda curious, too.

3. Not that this makes firing him any better, but I don't think it was the Gecko voice...
that got fired. It was the tagline announcer. (The guy that states "15 minutes could save you money on car insurance..." or however it goes.)

9. If it was a pay per play contract then it is a big loss.
He probably violated a subjective conduct clause in his contract.

The guy lost his job stating what we all fear about the serious fringe teabaggers.

12. Actually, GEICO is on FreedomWorks' boycott list . . .
because the insurer quit advertising on Glenn Beck's show over his comments advocating sedition.

The voiceover guy is not without sin, especially in using a term disparaging the intellectually challenged. GEICO had reason to drop him for him for that alone, and he knows it--which is why he has said that he doesn't blame GEICO. He also says that the loss of the gig is no big deal, as he has plenty of other work. For more, check out his blog: http://www.dcdouglasblog.com/

25. Do you know that their exist many types of Republics?
A Republic is simply a state which has form of government where the populace (or some part of the populace) chooses its leaders or representatives in government. Rome was a republic, France is a Republic. India, Russia, Australia, Turkey, Germany, and Switzerland are also Republics though they have government systems not identical to our own. What is your point other than to bash on Linclon for not allowing the southern states to secede as written in the Constitution?

A Republic still exists here in the Unites States even though Bush and the Republicans tried to derail that system with voting machines and using the SCOTUS to install him into offiice in 2000.

26. Can't argue with this..
"In the voicemail, Douglas also questions how FreedomWorks will "spin it when one of your members does actually kill somebody, wondering if you've got a PR spinning routine planned for that or are you just gonna take it when it happens."

Someone actually put himself out there to ask that question.

you don't want to irritate potential or current customers.

If you are a two time Super Bowl winning quarterback, you still want to follow the league rules on conduct. That's a lesson Big Ben learned this week.
