Girls accused of killing gay man in attack like Clockwork Orange
Source: The Times

Two drunken teenage girls kicked a man so badly as he lay unconscious during their homophobic attack that he later died, a court heard.

Ruby Thomas and Rachel Burke, both 18, stamped on Ian Baynham’s chest and kicked him in the head after their friend Joel Alexander, 19, had punched him to the ground, knocking him unconscious, the Old Bailey was told.

As Mr Baynham lay bleeding the teenagers continued to assault him, it was said, causing him to suffer a fit from brain damage after his skull had been fractured.

When Mr Baynham’s friend stepped in to try to save him, Ms Burke attacked him too, punching him in the face, the jury was told.

The three alleged killers fled from the scene and Mr Baynham was taken to hospital in East London, but he never regained consciousness and died 18 days after the attack in September last year.

Brian Altman, QC, for the prosecution, told jurors that Mr Baynham and Philip Brown were walking through Trafalgar Square, in Central London, “minding their own business”.

12. It's a book, too. In fact, it was a novel first by Anthony Burgess
Kubrick's film sanitized it quite a bit.

24. Just reading the title of that movie still sends shivers down my spine and makes me nauseas...
Edited on Thu Apr-22-10 01:29 PM by AuntPatsy
even after so many years and only one viewing...horrific movie...the most horrifying aspect of it being that obviously human beings are capable as acting similar to wild dangerous animalisitic terrors as this girl proves as have so many before her, such hate and destruction in my opinion should be punishable with the death penalty, I realize the reason that so many are against it but I cannot find it in me to ignore the reality that people like this female and her accomplice deserve no less

4. Maybe they were singing "Singin' in the Rain" during the mugging?
But yeah, I didn't see anything overt connecting the crime w/ the movie in the story...

10. From the link
Paragraph 8

“One onlooker likened the level of violence to a scene from the film A Clockwork Orange. What happened was an all too familiar and depressing tale of drunken, loutish behaviour. But what they did went far beyond mere antisocial conduct.

9. Here's where the headline comes from (most likely)
From the story, paragraph 8

“One onlooker likened the level of violence to a scene from the film A Clockwork Orange. What happened was an all too familiar and depressing tale of drunken, loutish behaviour. But what they did went far beyond mere antisocial conduct.

5. Another incident in Kentucky
MCKEE — The mother of a high school student who told police she was kidnapped and assaulted by three teenagers who tried to push her off a cliff says the alleged attack was a hate crime.

Dee Johnson said her daughter, Cheyenne Williams, 18, was attacked by her classmates because she is openly gay and there is evidence on video to support that the three teenagers attacked her because of her sexual orientation.

The three Jackson County High School students — Corinne M. Schwab, 18, of Sandgap; Ashley N. Sams, 18, of Annville; and a 17-year-old girl who was not identified because she is a juvenile — have been charged with kidnapping and attempting to kill Williams.

13. Don't you even try to blame the victim here
A slap does not lead to a death penalty.

she isn't capable because of her looks, but Ruby Thomas looks like a supermodel caught shopping by the paparazzi, not a killer.

please forgive me, but in our society, it is still a surprise to find that someone who looks like a supermodel could commit such a heinous act.

making the client presentable is a standard defense tactic. A skeevy looking character isn't necessarily guilty; by the same token a well dressed one isn't necessarily innocent.
