Could Captain Kirk be new Governor General?
They could do worse than the Shat, (Preston Manning is mentioned,he is a rightwing fundy religious nutball).

"It's time for Canada to boldly go where no country has gone before."

That phrase leads off an increasingly popular Facebook page calling for Canadian-born actor William Shatner to be named Canada's next governor general.

Almost 12,000 people have signed on as fans on the page launched March 22 urging Capt. James T. Kirk to beam into Rideau Hall once Michaelle Jean stands down.

Jean's five-year mission will soon expire and Prime Minister Stephen Harper is considering who will replace her.

3. Not really.
It's a ceremonial posting, the Queen's representative to Canada (Canada is part of the British Commonwealth).

Here's the wiki page explaining it.

4. The GG is the Queen's Representative in Canda...
it's a position hearkening back to when Canada was still a colony of England. The position is mostly ceremonial now, with only a very few official duties (reading the Speech from the Throne to open parliament, for instance) The GG is more of a Canadian goodwill ambassador-at-large, than a representative of any official policy.

I can't think of a comparable position in US politics.
