Check out that podium!
Gov. Christine Gregoire speaks in Pt.Townsend WA on Thursday (from www.ptleader.com).

I'm willing to bet that podium was built by a graduate of Pt.Townsend's wooden boat school. Beautiful, isn't it?

2. Yeah, that's pretty. I love woodwork like that.
I'm tempted to try it, but what little time I have to devote to the craft is based on my scroll saw. I've got a 14" band saw, full size drill press, 24" radial arm saw, and a desk-model band saw. They keep me busy.

6. When it doubt, route
You need you one more tool to add to your arsenal, a robust router, to be able to build stuff like that. That, and some well engineered jigs. That lecture screams of what is called "West Coast Roundover", a style made famous but the likes of Art Carpenter and the Baulines Craftsman's Guild (Bolinas Art Guild). Art was featured in Fine Woodworking and his style and techniques have been refined and expanded upon by hundreds of craftsmen over the years. I grew up surrounded by his pieces and worked with some of the guild members; it had a strong influence on me.

7. Yeah, shit - that's right. I got a new router recently (present).
The older two were my grandfather's. One is too large for the table and the other won't hold its depth level (it is REALLY old). I haven't even mounted the new one in the table! E-fucking-GADS!

3. I'm pretty sure it's the first time I ever considered a podium beautiful.
But the damn mic stand kind of ruins the effect a bit.

4. That's a lectern, not a podium
A podium is something you stand upon. A lectern is something that holds your paperwork while you read it, and this one, as you pointed out, is a beauty. :)
