Fuck Arizona. Fuck Their Jaime Crow Law. And Fuck All Who Support Or Enable It.
I recall that oversensitive reverse-racist black man Reverend Wright's "it's not 'god bless America', it's 'god DAMN America'". I'm sad to be alive to see first hand what (I think) he was talking about.

And that's about all I have to say about that.

1. K&R
It's a federal issue entirely for one thing. Completely unnecessary. Is this their worst problem? And racist to boot.

can only step in when the state does something idiotic like this. This could be a Supreme Court case.

job, according to the Constitution, defend and protect the borders, then the states would not have to.

Why are you guys being bigots?

Because the feds forced us to!!!!

Just being able to say that with a straight face takes some practice.

35. This is true but this is not a problem that has been going on
for 1 year 1/2 this has been going on for 3-4 administrations. John McCain who promoted immigration reform is now against it the very reform he promoted. How can anything get done when you have "Mavericks" like this?

That's like saying they could start their own armies if a state wanted to go to war and the federal government did not.

AZ would be crippled.

If every teacher of latino ancestry were to stay home, I bet few children would learn to read. If every child of latino ancestry were to stay home from school the school would be at least half empty.

8. heart. It's hard to match that, but I'm dumb enough to give it a shot anyway....
wtb: A new spanish-language version of this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijeXGv9QLRc

I'm countin' down to the day deservin'
Fittin' for a king
I'm waitin' for the time when I can
Get to Arizona
'Cause my money's spent on
The goddamn rent
Neither party is mine not the
Jackass or the elephant
20.000 nig niggy nigas in the corner
Of the cell block but they come
From California
Population none in the desert and sun
Wit' a gun cracker
Runnin' things under his thumb
Starin' hard at the postcards
Isn't it odd and unique?
Seein' people smile wild in the heat
120 degree
'Cause I wanna be free
What's a smilin' fact
When the whole state's racist
Why want a holiday F--k it 'cause I wanna
So what if I celebrate it standin' on a corner
I ain't drinkin' no 40
I B thinkin' time wit' a nine
Until we get some land
Call me the trigger man
Looki lookin' for the governor
Huh he ain't lovin' ya
But here to trouble ya
He's rubbin' ya wrong
Get the point come along
An he can get to the joint
I urinated on the state
While I was kickin' this song
Yeah, he appear to be fair
The cracker over there
He try to keep it yesteryear
The good ol' days
The same ol' ways
That kept us dyin'
Yes, you me myself and I'ndeed
What he need is a nosebleed
Read between the lines
Then you see the lie
Politically planned
But understand that's all she wrote
When we see the real side
That hide behind the vote
They can't understand why he the man
I'm singin' 'bout a king
They don't like it
When I decide to mike it
Wait I'm waitin' for the date
For the man who demands respect
'Cause he was great c'mon
I'm on the one mission
To get a politician
To honor or he's a gonner
By the time I get to Arizona

Having seen way too much being gay and living in the South and having diverse friends and dealing with the nazipublicans for most all of my adult life..Though I did land eventually in a place much like the fictional Mayberry in NC(not Mt Airy that's the district from which Andy Griffith hails from and so does Virginia Foxx, no wonder he campaigned for Obama).

37. I agree w/the general sentiment, applied to the Jaime Crow law & its supporters and enablers, but ..
it is poor politics to try to stigmatize or blame a whole state. CA passed prop 8 (and a generation ago, the disastrous prop 13, which are both still part of their state Constitution) by popular vote, but there are many millions of VICTIMS of these laws who never supported them and have no place to go. Others called for a boycott of the state of Utah for the Mormon support of prop 8

In just about every state there is some policy or policies that are noxious like this. Boycott NYC for electing someone like Bloomberg? or MA (where I live) for electing a boner like Scott Brown? The list is endless. As I point out to those who want to boycott Israel, the US has done WAY more evil in the Mideast over the past 20 years than Israel in its entire history! Are we to boycott ourselves?

What are all the Latinos in AZ supposed to do if the state is boycotted?

Boycotts in general need to be very carefully calibrated and targeted so as to get the broadest support and the least harm to friends and allies (the sanctions on South Africa were a case where the support for them from the black liberation movement was overwhelming and the relative impact of corporate divestment on blacks as against the strength of apartheid was small, though the defenders of the status quo tried the argument there too.

Well conceived boycott yes! I am sure that a broad based strategy of both targeted boycott, federal litigation (but w/the current SCOTUS don't expect too much), and federal legislation (ditto there as far as the hot potato politics of immigration in Congress). Perhaps there are unilateral things Obama can do, and of course building up an opposition political coalition and mass base in AZ as elsewhere is the key on these things

40. Thanks for the post
I agree completely with everything and a well conceived boycott. I'm not sure what would be to address this law other than a simple demonstration--which there have been plenty lately. The ones I see here involve businesses and I'm not sure how that will help overturn the law and I doubt the Republicans in-state would even care. I think that it will hurt the rest of us who are dealing with a struggling state economy and unemployment.
