Protest will be plentiful in Arizona including Sunday
NOTE: this post isn't meant to plug my show, but I thought it was important enough to those who didn't hear it to be able to. Please forgive me if it seems to be self serving, but it is meant to help you understand how we feel here in Arizona, and to give you a real view of the impact of this horrible law, as well as what we are trying to do here to reverse this.

On my radio show today, Jeff Farias called in to update us on a meeting the Democratic Party had in Tucson. He said that this bill 1070 was the talk of the group and that a protest at the State Capital in Phoenix would be held tomorrow. I hope to attend and hope all that can will be there. There will also be a podcast of my show from tonight up so you can hear some people most affected by this horrible law, with one breaking down as she talks about the fear she has not only for herself, but her family. All are born citizens. Here is where the podcast will be and should be up by noon pacific time Sunday. http://smcws.podbean.com/

2. Oh, good. I'm going to kick this without
listening to the poscast, because it show that there are some real Americans in Arizona.

Good luck to you, and best wishes for your efforts.

9. Noon until 2 pm
I just talked to Jeff Farias and he said it will be then at the Capital. He also told me that he will be recording it to air on his show on Monday for those who can't attend and want to hear the sounds of it.

6. Young Dems at ASU
From an email:

Governor Brewer has signed SB 1070, a law that will cost Arizona millions in lawsuits and lost revenue from businesses and tourism. This law does nothing less than legalize racial profiling, and we need to take action. Let's make our voices heard! YDAz will be rallying with our allies against this new law.

Join us on Sunday at the capitol at 12:00 noon.

Young Democrats are meeting in two places to carpool and grab clip boards with voter registration forms before the rally. Join us if you can!

In the Tempe Area:

Meet at ASU at 11:00am

Discovery Hall Parking lot (on Orange Street between Forest and College)

In Phoenix:

Meet at the Arizona Democratic Party HQ @ 11:00am

2910 N Central Ave

Phoenix, AZ 85012

After the rally come to our state training and gain the skills to kick the people who enacted this law out of office:

8. keep covering it
it's easy to make flip remarks about what a backward country AZ is, but the truth is if it could happen there it could happen most anywhere. propHATE passed in CA.
i don't think AZ's law will pass its first test in a court of law...but then the SC chose a president who stayed on for 8 horrific years. i wish i could be in phoenix tomorrow.

11. Now, imagine, if you will, all those participating in the protests of
this bill do like the tea party demonstrators. Imagine them all exercising their 2nd Amendment rights by carrying weapons.

Just imagine "Imagine if the Tea Party was Black" - amazing read

13. Ironic isn't it, but I left Ms. to save my life and now ...
here I am in Arizona 3 years laters fighting another battle and maybe once more looking at my life being on the line. How come we just can't find respect for each other, and deal with problems in a decent and understanding way? Oh well, here I go again and if I have to give up my life to make it better for those being done wrong, so be it. God, I am tired of fighting stuff that was suppose to be resolved in my dad's time. Oh well back to the past.

15. I was there and sat with Jeff for a bit. it wasn't that much of an "official " topic. Only Rep
Steve Farley of Tuscon addressed the issue in any depth. This was the Democratic State Committee meeting. Most of the meeting was geared to the upcoming elections. The Atty general candidates spoke. Felicia Rotellini was outstanding. Andrei Cherni spoke about his upcoming fundraiser on Monday with Bill Clinton, various other candidates spoke and we elected a new Senior Vice Chair and affirmative action moderator.

16. Thanks Sara
I talked to Jeff on the phone during my show (see podcast tomorrow for the statements) and I am going by what he said on it. I imagine he was talking about the general talk among those attending and maybe not so much about what the speakers said. I would be interested to hear what you hear people there saying about this new law and what you learned about it.

18.  I am sure he was. Many of us, including Jeff and I, were talking about it.
I am. as per usual, still furious that the Arizona State Democratic Party allowed this to happen. Many of us knew this was the danger in 08 when they ignored the local candidates and the down ticket and concentrated on narrowing the Mccain/Obama gap. When we lost Janet, that was the nail in the coffin. Look what happened to choice as well. And education and healthcare and..... It just makes me spit. The only hope is that this finally gets out the Hispanic vote.

19. So correct you are
I hope the community will see how it is going to make them prisoners in their own land. I was so depressed when my caller told how she worried about her family and how distressed she was in her call. Add in the clerk I talked to yesterday that I wrote about here, certainly the others feeling this will decide they can't afford to sit around anymore.

17. Wish I could be there but
great to hear people are taking action right away.

Just remember, they don't care what we think, but they do care about money. So, boycotts are the only thing they will understand.

Don't worry about posting, we want to know what is going on. Thank you for the updates.

20. Let make no mistake about this new law
It is a law that will subject anyone visiting Arizona to potential jailing. It has that clause that if you think the cops aren't enforcing the law, then you can sue law enforcement. Anyone will be likely to be asked for citizenship proof and if you were a cop, how do you say no when you might be getting the next lawsuit going by doing so. No this law is seriously bad and it must be done away with.

I would hope the press would cover this as well.

The Democratic Party appears to be the ones putting this together so I would think they would have. Sorry, I just don't know.

24. I plan to be there tomorrow
and hope thousands will be, however, we must do all we can and hang together to repeal this law. I know many aren't pleased with it that are republicans, but the propaganda machine is working hard to make it appear it is blessed by most. I even saw one (probably a freeper) here trying to make it seem like it is supported by both republicans and democrats, but I bet he would be hard pressed to prove it. Sure some might support but I doubt it is as favored as these jerks would want to have you think.

26. A lot of us will keep with up the protests here on DU
And with your link to the podcast. The MSM will likely not give it a whole lot of coverage, so we will have to depend on DU and your excellent link. Thanks for it by the way and good luck to you all down there.
