Here's an interesting question, in regards to proof of citizenship...
I recently got a U.S. passport because I left the country to visit someone. I applied for it through the post office, got it in 6 weeks, and I noticed something about it that's interesting, my last name is technically wrong. I'm of Irish/Scottish heritage and my last name begins with "Mc" with a capital letter as the third letter. On my birth certificate, my SS card, and driver's license, there is no space after the letter "c", yet there is one on my passport. I didn't put it there myself, obviously, I know how to write my last name, after all. :)

However, I was mildly worried that when I left or tried to return to the country that this would cause problems because it also didn't match with the name on my plane tickets due to the damned space. It didn't create any problems that I'm aware of, but I'm just wondering if it could cause problems in the future.

2. Take it to the
post office and check with them. It might simply be that that's the way it is printed when the third litter is a capital letter.

5. That is a good question.
A friend just had his electronic income tax return rejected and he had to mail in the hard copies. Turned out, the year of his birth was one year off in the Social Security database, and it's apparently been that way since the beginning. That's a long time because he's older than dirt.

Computers are comparing database entries like these more often as time goes by. If there's a space where one doesn't belong, I'll bet there's a chance you'll someday get kicked out for special attention.
