And if you know what the difference b/w union and non-union salaries is, I'd appreciate that too.

1. Non-union coal miners make a high middle class wage
While union miners each make at least six figures and are directly responsible for the mines' myriad failures to adhere to safety regulations.

At least, that's how the MSM tells it...

3. Union miners are lucky to get $60K a year
Non union generally get about 30% less. The upside is that the cost of living where mining is done, $60 K can offer a pretty good standard of living.

5. They make good money, five dollars a day..
A lotta poor man make a five dollar bill, Keep him happy all the time.
Some other fella's makin' nothin' at all And you can hear him cry,
"Can I go, buddy, can I go down Take your shift at the mine?"

Gotta get down to the Cumberland Mine.
Gotta get down to the Cumberland Mine.
That's where I mainly spend my time.
Make good money, five dollars a day. Made anymore, I might move away.

Lotta poor man got the Cumberland Blues He can't win for losin'
Lotta poor man got to walk the line Just to pay his union dues.
I don't know now, I just don't know If I'm goin' back again.

7. In this area miners get at least $60000 and maybe up to
Edited on Sun Apr-25-10 04:54 PM by doc03
$100000 depending on the overtime they work. From what I hear the non-union miners make as much or nearly as much as the Union miners. The non-union mines don't have as restrictive work rules and generally the working conditions are not as good. Someone told me a while back one of the local mines has a 40" ceiling, can you imagine working stooped over like that all day.
