Attacks on homeless rising, advocates in Cincinnati say
Man says he was hit with pipes, bats
CINCINNATI - Advocates for the homeless say attacks against people living on the streets in greater Cincinnati are increasing and can't be tolerated.
The latest assault reported to police came this month, when John Johnson said he was beaten with pipes and bats by four men who insulted him and told him to get a job.
The men who assaulted Johnson must be caught or such attacks could continue, said Josh Spring, executive director of the Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless.
"They will do it again," Spring said. "They do these things because it evokes control over somebody that they view as less human."
More attacks on the homeless are coming to the attention of the Rev. Dave Weaver, pastor of a Methodist church in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood.
