Conservatism has pretty much destroyed America...
Because, just as any businessperson worth his or her salt will tell you, once you quit making PROGRESS, you're HOSED!

4. This short sentence always pisses off a conservative:
Liberal thought always wins in the end, we are just arguing about how fast.

When I say that to someone, it really makes them irritated. There is no comeback either except gritting teeth.

6. I think "destroyed" is too strong a term
Perhaps my aversion to it is partly due to the fact that the Right misuses it to characterize what our President is doing to America, to the Constitution, to democracy.

And whatever negative effects we may attribute to conservatism, none rise to the level of destruction. At least with conservatives we have a reasonable disagreement. The real problem now is not with conservatives. Now we have to contend with absolutely batshit-crazy wingnut teabaggers and the radio/TV/ GOP loons who incite them. Suddenly, conservatives are the least of our problems.

8. When people are dying for lack of health care...
Jobs lost, neighborhoods dying and cities crumbling dying...

Lost of rights because of police state laws...

The loss of the middle class because tax policies that favor the rich...

Public education crippled...

All because of this "shrink the size of government, let the marketplace solve all of our problems" policies of conservatives, it's hard not to see what harm has been done.

If this isn't destruction, I don't know what it.

What we need is reconstruction... and no conservative will support that. They'd rather let us fade away.

9. You make good points, as usual . . .
but I think it's less a case of destroying something we had (because we didn't have it), and more a case of obstructing what we could accomplish.

I think we are disagreeing only on semantics. Nevertheless, you and I remain optimists . . .

7. I think - I hope- that the right is become its own worst enemy - they have removed
some of their masks and revealed their true beliefs and people - at long last - are geting angry at them. I see their tide beginning to turn, and I believe they will be shocked by the elections in November.

10. Conservatism yes, some, but it is mostly capitalism that has pushed
us over the edge. The corporate takeover, which in a way was enabled by conservatism.
