T shirt for blondes...
blondes like me, that is, who are horrified by the new Arizona law.

2. But they ARE "profiling" you.
If you appear to be white, they profile you as a presumed citizen. If you appear to be Latino, they profile you as a suspected illegal alien. YOUR profile equates to "innocent until proven guilty". THEIR profiles equate to "guilty until proven innocent".

Arizona is singlehandedly trying to destroy the most basic, fundamental principle upon which our legal system was built--that innocence must always be presumed until guilt is proven beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

3. K&R. I'm blonde, too, and when I was a kid, I visited Mexico with my grandmother.
(She was spending the winter in Arizona.) She sent me to the Post Office, all by myself, and I got stared at by people like I was an alien, which I guess I was. It was an awful feeling, but at least I wasn't stopped and asked for my papers. :scared:

6. Interestingly I would probably get stopped.
I was in Houston when my dad was dying. I had sat in the hospital as long as I could stand it and needed a break. So I hopped a bus and went downtown just to see and smell something besides the VA hospital.

When I got on the bus, I got the glance-up bus looks. But nothing out of the ordinary. As the bus made it's rounds and "whiter" (more pale, lighter hair, taller) looking folks got on, there were distinct stares from the other passengers who were mostly Hispanic.

It took a few stops with Hispanic looking people getting the glance and Whites getting the stare before it dawned on me that I had "passed".

It was interesting to know that I was an outsider who had been accepted based solely on my physical appearance.

7. I guess that goes to show that physical appearance doesn't reveal much.
I'm sorry that you had to go through such an ordeal with your Dad, but at least you weren't made more uncomfortable by people thinking that you didn't "belong" somewhere. Whoever ever thought of skin color as a way to group people? Makes no sense and those who do need to read "The Sneetches" By Dr. Seuss. *sigh*

My best friend in college was Jewish, dark curly hair, dark eyes. She spent one summer vacation doing a job in a Chicago factory and nobody could figure her out, often spoke to her in Italian or Spanish, assuming she was part of either group...
