It seems to me one of the reasons we now find ourselves facing the looniness of the AZ law .......
.... is the abject failure of our government to deal with immigration.

That means at all levels and on all sides. That means Obama. That means Idiot Son. That means Clinton. That means Bush. That means Reagan ...... you get the idea. That means the Senate, on both sides. That means the House, on both sides.

I believe the reason there has been no action is cowardice. It is a thorny issue and one that will not make anyone perfectly happy and is sure to anger close to half the electorate, no matter what gets done.

Sometimes, though, you just have to do something.

2. It has proven to be toxic and both parties don't want to own it
Sadly this issue seems to be one that anybody who tries to address it gets hit hard. Reagan addressed and it hurt the Republicans, Bush tried to get it addressed and the Republicans backed him off because they had tried to use it before and got burned. The Democrats don't want to address it too much because then they would have to come up with something and thereby owning it. The reality is that regardless of what you do on this issue it will be wrong to enough to lose power, and from my introduction to it 3 years ago when I came to Arizona from Mississippi I have seen what a dangerous issue it is.

5. Obama would have had immigration done by now if
the Blue Dog Dems and republicans hadn't dragged health-care reform out for nearly a year.

7. You mention Reagan
As I recall, he signed on to Simpson-Mazzoli, and legalized many who were here illegally. Since that time, we have refused to enforce laws that banned hiring the undocumented.

Enforce those laws, fully and completely, and there is no need for any other law. Arizona dealt with the refusal of the Federal government to stand behind the principles that Simpson-Mazzoli was sold on, and the result is a Draconian measure.

8. That's a solution. It has merit.
There are many other suggested solutions that also have merit.

The issue is not lack of ideas. it is lack of will to implement something.

My purpose in posting was not so much to discuss solutions as to chastise every person in government, top to bottom, for cowardice on this issue.
