Drill, Baby, Drill! Obama OKs Va. Offshore Drilling
Obama to allow oil drilling off Virginia's coast
By ANDREA BERRY
March 31, 2010

Oil companies could soon start drilling for black gold off the coast of Virginia.

President Obama's set to reverse a long-standing ban on most offshore drilling, and the Commonwealth is one of the regions he's eyeing.

The president is expected to announce the new drilling policy Wednesday at Andrews Air Force Base. The plan will modify a ban that has been in place for more than 20 years, limiting drilling along coastal areas other than the Gulf of Mexico.

Environmentalists have been vehemently opposed to more oil platforms off the nation's shores. The White House is offering a fig leaf by rejecting some new drilling areas that had been planned in Alaska. The president is also keeping a moratorium on drilling off the West Coast.

However, oil drilling will be allowed 50 miles off Virginia's shorelines. The Obama administration said the reversal would reduce U.S. reliance on foreign oil and create jobs.

Drilling off the Atlantic coast will probably create jobs .... oil spill clean-up jobs! BBI

1. That was a double WTF
Number one - offshore oil drilling WILL NOT end dependence on foreign oil

Number two - In politics, you NEVER, EVER give something to the opposition without bargaining first. Obama gave away his ace before he even started playing.

2. "Obama gave away his ace before he even started playing."
Why does that sound so familiar? Must be one of the rules of 3-dimensional chess.

6. I'm fine with this.
If it takes giving them what they want to force them to face the effects of dependence on fossil fuels, so be it.

7. And who will "face the effects of dependence on fossil fuels", them or us?

The oil companies and Wall Street should do just fine.

8. We don't matter.
The Gulf of Mexico doesn't matter.

The Chesapeake doesn't matter.

All that matters to these sociopathic cretins is that the administration can never be wrong about anything.

9. What a heaping steaming pile of crap.

How have all those wars for oil been working for you or the enviromental destruction in the ME and elsewhere in oil rich nations? Do those matter to you? Are we so special that we are forever to be held exempt from suffering the consequences of our consumption? Bring it home until we change.

Cretin? Bite me.

10. Why are you addressing Better Believe It this way?
It's not very nice of you, and doesn't distract anyone from the fact that you are the one who supports giving the oil companies what they want.

reality of the effects of its consumption of energy. You don't get that by making it some other nation's problem. Spilling someone else's blood. Fouling someone else's land. The right or industry will never step leftward without realizing what their pipe dreams mean in real terms on our soil.

And I was addressing you. I believe you are the one calling people cretins.

13. This nation already is facing the effects, and neither the right nor industry gives a damn
That's because they know that enough of the citizenry are such sociopathic cretins that they will cheerfully throw their fellow Americans to the wolves, which gives lie to the notion that they care one whit about other nations, let alone the ocean.

I'm pleased to see you have finally figured out how to reply to another's post. Have a great day.

14. We the people didn't start the wars, We the people don't run the oil companies.
Edited on Thu Apr-29-10 08:28 PM by Better Believe It
We the people don't run Wall Street and corporate America.

We the people don't control the government.

So you think we should suffer for the sins of corporate America!

Do you also hope that the health insurance industry really screws us big time under the health care "reform"?

I hope you decide to end your support of Big Oil against us.
