According to Dave Roberts who is being interviewed by Brad Friedman, who is subbing for Mike Malloy tonight.

This is nuts. If it's true, Obama has just lost my vote. Fuck this shit! Enough is enough! :banghead:

Oil Spill Could Delay, Alter Obama Plans for More Offshore Drilling
Reporting from Washington

April 29, 2010 | 3:06 p.m.

The massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico could trigger changes in President Obama's recently announced plans to open new coastal areas for offshore drilling, administration officials said Thursday.

Earlier this month Obama unveiled a draft plan designed to open the way for to new drilling off the Atlantic Coast, in Alaska and in the Gulf of Mexico. But on Thursday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs and other administration officials, including top energy and climate advisor Carol Browner, said the plan was entering a public comment phase and could undergo modifications as a result of the oil spill and possible public reaction.

8. So does Gibbs NOT speak for the President?
Gibbs has made this statement twice now. Surely he's not acting on his own.

14. Try reading; this was his most current statement. Are they allowed
to alter positions as conditions warrant, or did you prefer idiot son's style?

3. I don't know much about this but I've heard that Brazil & some
other countries deman a special auto shutoff be installed in any offshor drilling project that prevents anything like this from happening. The reason the US hasn't demanded the same thing is because each auto shutoff costs over $500,000. I have to admit I haven't heard of any giant oil spills in any other countries because of offshore drilling. Maybe Obama knows about this and will demand that precaution be taken before issuing any permits.

5. Well, I guess until there is a legitimate practical alternative to oil/gasoline, etc..
we still have to drill for the stuff. It has to come from somewhere and total dependence on foreign oil has its own set of risks.

7. Exactly. So instead of drilling for more oil, develop new technologies.
There are all kinds of promising alternatives. We need to focus on those instead of more offshore drilling.

9. We need to do both because we are a long way off from weaning ourselves off oil..
Oil usage is embedded and entertwined into our economy and and modern way of life. One could argue without oil we would revert back to early 1800's lifestyle.

13. I suggest waiting and seeing if anything gets drilled before you bang your head

You have plenty of time left to see what happens before you'll be voting - or not voting, as the case may be - for Obama again.
