Gulf oil spill creeps toward shore - There has been little success in stemming slick’s flow

VENICE, La. - President Barack Obama planned to visit the Gulf Coast on Sunday to assess the response to a massive oil slick that keeps growing and creeping toward American shores from Louisiana to Florida.

There has been little success stemming the flow from the ruptured well on the sea floor by skimming the oil, burning it or dispersing it with chemicals. Adding to the gloomy outlook were warnings from experts that an uncontrolled gusher could create a nightmare scenario if the Gulf Stream current carries it toward the Atlantic.

There is growing criticism that the government and oil company BP PLC should have done more to stave off the disaster, which cast a pall over the region's economy and fragile environment.

"These people, we've been beaten down, disaster after disaster," said Matt O'Brien of Venice, whose fledgling wholesale shrimp dock business is under threat from the spill.

"They've all got a long stare in their eye," he said. "They come asking me what I think is going to happen. I ain't got no answers for them. I ain't got no answers for my investors. I ain't got no answers."

"I am sick and tired of all the lib-rul whining about this oil 'event.' I mean, just because George AWOL Bush and Five-Deferments Cheney gave the oil companies a safety pass, and Halliburton screwed the pooch, it's no biggie (unless it befouls the beach at the Palatial Mansion I bought with all the republicon corporate crony bucks shoveled my way).

"So to all you loyal republicon teabaqgging sheeple out there, pay no attention whatsoever to this, um, 'event.' Remember, what America really needs is: more tax cuts for rich republicons. Sneer. Smirk."

3. There's no "if" about the slick making it to the Atlantic
It will cover beaches from the mouth of the Mississippi to the Florida Keys and then out into the Atlantic. It will cover Cuban beaches and could even wrap around and contaminate Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach. Especially so if the blowout is complete and we're talking 50,000 barrels a day rather than the 5000 thought to be gushing now. There's plenty of time for all this to happen before hurricane season gets going in earnest.

12. Bush & Cheney... my friends: ROTF LOL...
I campaigned for Obama... and will vote for him again (perhaps reluctantly)! I'm just really, REALLY, disappointed with the new drill policy (and some cabinet choices, e.g. see monsanto/vilsak).

I'd slam my own junk in a door before I would vote republican! I'm just disappointed... really, REALLY disappointed (maybe feeling a little bit betrayed)! Guess my expectations were high... probably shouldn't have bought the whole "change" thing so completely. My bad.
