SOUTH ST. PAUL - In August 1985, workers went on strike at the Hormel plant in Austin, Minn. The conflict bitterly divided the labor movement and the community.
On Tuesday, May 4, participants will provide perspective on the Hormel strike in a program organized as part of the “Untold Stories” labor history series. Strikers Dale Chichester and Pete Winkels, as well as historian Peter Rachleff, author of Hard-Pressed in the Heartland, will take part.
The program will start at 7 p.m. at the United Food & Commercial Workers Local 789 hall, 266 Hardman Avenue, South St. Paul. It is free and open to the public.
“Untold Stories” is the annual series of labor history programs sponsored by The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library and co-sponsored by a number of organizations. Tuesday’s program is co-sponsored by UFCW Local 789.
