DPS to Ban District-Sponsored Travel to Arizona In Wake of New Identity-Document Law

Denver – No Denver Public Schools’ employees will attend any work related conferences in Arizona as a result of the state’s new identity-document law enacted there last week.

“This legislation is an assault on human dignity and our core values,” DPS Superintendent Tom Boasberg said.

“We will not put our employees at risk of the arbitrary and potentially discriminatory harassment that can now occur in Arizona as a result of this reprehensible identity-document legislation. This is an issue of intense concern to our students, our employees, and their families. We encourage members of the DPS community and other school districts to join us with their voices and actions.”

:toast: to a good call by a huuuuuuge school district! (edited to add: nearly 80,000 students)

2. I wouldn't be surprised if the United Teachers of LA do the same thing.
A lot of organizations and individuals in California go to Arizona all the time. This can really hurt them. Which is really sad for the working people who are not part of this bill.

I'm glad I don't have to make a decision such as this. We didn't have solid plans to go to the Grand Canyon or Sedona this year.

3. Thanks. I just showed this to some Latino friends, and they were stunned.
"Wow...that's all I can say."

Good work, Boasberg! :applause:

4. IIRC this district is 52% Hispanic (or thereabouts)
...I expect this factored into the process.
