Why Are We IGNORING This Muslim-Immigrant Hero Who Alerted Police To Failed Times Square Bombing?
Edited on Wed May-05-10 10:17 AM by kpete
"It's somewhat consoling to know that the man who first noticed the smoking Nissan Pathfinder and sought help is also Muslim, a Senegalese immigrant. I wonder if he was, as I am, deeply bewildered and infinitely saddened by the violence that's being associated with Islam."

....................

Media Ignore The Fact That Man Who Alerted Police To Failed Times Square Bombing Is A Muslim Immigrant

.....................

Yet one fact being ignored in the American media’s sensationalist narrative about the failed bombing is that the man who was responsible for police finding the bomb was Muslim. The UK’s Times Online http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article7114495.ece reports that Aliou Niasse, a Senagalese Muslim immigrant who works as a photograph vendor on Times Square, was the first to bring the smoking car to the police’s attention:

Aliou Niasse, a street vendor selling framed photographs of New York, said that he was the first to spot the car containing the bomb, which pulled up right in front of his cart on the corner of 45th street and Broadway next to the Marriott hotel.

“I didn’t see the car pull up or notice the driver because I was busy with customers. But when I looked up I saw that smoke appeared to be coming from the car. This would have been around 6.30pm.”

“I thought I should call 911, but my English is not very good and I had no credit left on my phone, so I walked over to Lance, who has the T-shirt stall next to mine, and told him. He said we shouldn’t call 911. Immediately he alerted a police officer near by,”
said Mr Niasse, who is originally from Senegal and who has been a vendor in Times Square for about eight years.

12. Hey,
Thats happened to me here in my hometown when I reported a crime, I wound up going to jail on a 10 year old warrant that was cleared soon after it was wrongly issued to begin with but no the police here didn't throw it out back then like they were supposed to do. So I wound up in jail and the perpetrator of the crime I was reporting went on his merry way. Oh, and I'm about as American as you can get too. shit happens is my thoughts :hi:

13. Gawker's got a cynical take on this
http://gawker.com/5531149/whos-winning-the-times-square-hero-vendor-war

Who's Winning the Times Square Hero Vendor War?

No fewer than three street vendors have claimed credit for helping to prevent the Times Square bombing by alerting police of Faisal Shahzad's smoking SUV. Now the New York Times reports they are fighting amongst themselves. Who's winning?

Times Square vendors Duane Jackson, Lance Orton and Aliou Niasse have all been named heroes by the press. But at least two of them are not happy with sharing credit. Here's how the campaign for Ultimate Hero Vendor of Times Square is going so far:

The rest is at the link.

67. Whether or not
you or anyone else have just been made aware of him simply doesn't change the fact that he had media coverage just as if a tree falls in the woods and you didn't hear it doesn't mean it didn't fall.

The problem with this particular story in regards to Mr. Niasse is that his 15 minutes pretty much lasted 15 minutes due to the fact that things moved very quickly with this story and his story was replaced with an arrest and subsequent media dissection of Faisal Shahzad, who became the bigger story.

20. Times Square
Is crawling with police, they would have found it within minutes.

One of these vendors was on a radio talk show yesterday. The way he described it the cop came up and asked him what the car was doing there. So the cop was walking up to look at it anyway.

and the point is mute, If they had never even seen it till the next day, nobody helped avoid a threat, there was no threat because it never would have gone off.

24. More relevant perhpas is how quickly CAIR et al denounced the deed
As of course they should. It's a bit sad that they feel like they have to, and a bit of a shame that our Xian religious leaders couldn't meet them in the middle when it comes to denouncing their own crazies (and note - CAIR never said he wasn't a Muslim because he did bad things - another lesson there), but it's laudable in the current environment that they did so very quickly and clearly.

... instead focusing on what "mainstream media" has been saying as to who they think the culprit was. Turned out to be a Pakistani, legally present (or even Citizen - my mind escapes me) who is allegedly responsible.

But that doesn't matter because Lord Haw Haw (Michael Savage) just wants to scream and rant his anti-Islamic diatribe. I only listen to the guy to get a laugh these days because he's so out of reality it literally is unreal. Makes Sean Insanity look sane.

What's so great about "the story"? didn't they learn anything from the critiques of the 60s?

Nothing against this guy or Muslims in general, it just seems to me the word "hero" has been undergoing a major dilution in meaning over the past decade. He noticed a smoking car in front of his cart, and he told people about it. What would you have done, just shrug and wait for it to blow up?

64. Won't stop Americas' Lord Haw Haw from ranting and raving....
I mean he had a point that the mainstream media speculated that the bomber could have been a white mail disgruntled at the way things are right now... turns it it could allegedly be a person of Pakistani origins. Didn't stop Dr. Savage-Haw-Haw from shoving his vile anti-Islamic message down the ears of people who happen upon or deliberately choose to listen to his "broadcast".

(btw I don't make a point of listening to this particular individuals' broadcasts, but when he is on he is just so entertaining listening to him rant and rave over practically absolutely nothing of any real consequence - his reality is so warped I think he might have a mental illness, but that's my opinion and not a statement of fact.)
