Cutting off your nose to spite your face- Republicans
http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn18860-republicans-wont-be-nudged-into-cutting-home-energy.html

It was hailed as a breakthrough in the fight to cut carbon emissions. In 2007, researchers found that heavy electricity users cut their consumption after being told that they used more energy than their neighbours. Almost a million US households have since received similar feedback and have cut electricity use by an average of 2.5 per cent.

But a new study has identified a wrinkle in the plan: the feedback only seems to work with liberals. Conservatives tend to ignore it. Some even respond by using more energy.

The findings come from a study of over 80,000 Californian households, just under half of which received feedback on energy use. Overall, the technique worked: households who got the feedback cut electricity by around 2 per cent, say Dora Costa and Matthew Kahn at the University of California, Los Angeles.

But important difference emerged when Costa and Kahn looked at the political leanings of those in the survey. Homeowners who identified themselves as Republicans cut energy use by just 0.4 per cent on average. And those Republicans who showed no practical interest in environmental causes – people who did not donate to environmental groups and did not choose to pay extra for renewable energy – even increased electricity use by 0.75 per cent.

They are willing to destroy the world just to show they can't be "pushed around."

They are willing to destroy the world just to show they can't be "pushed around."

Some think it is just about courage and persistence.

Not being pushed around is part of Klingon lexicon. It is an idea of strength, but it can be stubbornness or perseverance.

In itself it has no value, it is an additive to something else.

So if you show you can not be pushed around by people doing good, you are doing bad.
If you show you can not be pushed around by people doing bad, you are doing good.

It is not a moral component, and requires also knowing weather it is correct or wrong to know if what you stand for is also the correct values.

Courage is the same way, it also requires other components to be correct, hence the concept of thinking on many things or balanced in all the ways that are good. You have to have courage to stand against that which is bad, but those that are bad can have some courage against good. Although those that do wrong usually have more fear. Since in their hearts they know existence is just.

So things like courage and persistence need also a moral grounding and a strength of character in the better ways of integrity, humility, kindness, and the better ways of the light side, in my belief the ways of the love of God.

And actually many religions do that same thing, they claim God is on their side by their interpretations. I think the idea that we hope God is on our side is better, while each person also spends hours in thought and meditation to try and make their actions also conform to the better things. Many people are stubborn in beliefs so they can do wrong, just like many faithfull in belief do so because they feel and think it is correct.

Much of it is about what a person thinks is a better way to live.

8. As a person matures, they come to the realization that the
world doesn't revolve around them. The ones that don't outgrow that infantile mindset become Republicans/conservatives.

9. It reminds me of so many people I've known,
who cannot grow emotionally and psychologically past early adolescence. I think their brains are hardwired to that mindset and they appear to be incapable of learning new ways to interact with the world around them. When someone else does something to them, they are outraged, but when they do the same thing, somehow they feel justified never seeing the hypocrisy. It is fascinating to observe them repeat the same behavior over and over again, always getting the same results and not comprehending why.

10. I saw that when I returned from the Army. My high school
buddies were still hanging out on the corner. They were still wearing their letter jackets, drinking beer and talking shit. I walked away from them and never went back.

13. That's basically the case- Republicans tend to be stuck in preconventional moral reasoning
much like children.

15. They say adolescents are unable to think long term, do not
have the ability to see the consequences of their actions, or really grasp their mortality. That's one reason they join the army. That's good and bad. There's times we need that unthinking action.
