Susan Bysiewicz CT Attorney General Candidate
and my kids favorite halloween candy lady is OK'd by the court to run for Attorney General of Connecticut. She pretty much had to sue herself after a loudmouth blogger questioned her eligibility and today she won.

I think she can pull this off pretty handily even with the negative attention, she's quite popular and a damned nice person. I for one can't wait to help out on her campaign.

1. I like her. I sat at her table at a Planned Parenthood dinner a few years back.
I don't think the recent controversy helped her, tho. She looked on the defensive and that is never a could position to be in.

Do you think she still has an interest in running for Joe's seat in 2012?

2. I don't know her well enough to say for sure
but that's kind of the scuttlebutt still going around. A lot is going to depend on how well she can recover from the problems she's just gone through.

My guess is that if she can win the Attorney General job handily she might do it, but she seems worried (rightly so I think) that dumping that job so soon after fighting hard to get it may not go over well.

3. Yeah, that kind of overweaning ambition might seem a bit tacky and she
could very well lose the seat for a Dem if she runs...

We need that seat back. Joe's done enough harm. If we get a repuke in there because of Susan's controversy, I would go thru the roof. I like Susan but not at the expense of a Senate seat...

BTW, who do you see running against Joe in '12?

4. I'd be surprised if she ran
for Lieberman's seat right now, who knows what might happen over the next year and a half.

I don't really know who's going to run against him, everyone that I thought of is going for something else. Blumenthal, Susan, Lamont.

I don't see either Blumenthal or Lamont losing but if either of them doesn't pull it off this year they would be my bet.

What do you think of DeStefano, he tends to run for anything? I don't know him well at all.

I'm also betting that Lieberman is going to try again, I never used to think so but the ego on that man is unrivaled. I don't think he would have the balls to run as a Dem or the idiocy required to run as a puke so my guess is that he's going to try for another independent bid. This time I don't think he'll be successful, damn I hope he isn't successful this time.

Other than ZigZag Zell Miller I don't think I've ever hated a former Dem as much as I hate Lieberman.

5. DON'T get me started on DeStefano!
He is a corrupt, incompetent, meanspirited, union busting creep! His mismanagement of the Rizzo case caused a setback in affirmative action for this country. He threatened layoffs of 13 key people in Human Services for the city if AFSME didn't give in on his demand to cut the building custodians out of the union...the people at the bottom who need union protection the most. And the services he cut primarily came from the homeless, families and children...our most vulnerable populations here in New Haven when the union, rightly, did not give in to his demand. New Haven can no longer say it has a "no freeze" policy on the treatment of homeless people who used to literally freeze to death on park benches during the winter.

I regard John DeStefano as I would regard a virulent cancer.

6. Jeez man you really should
learn to express yourself, holding emotions back like this is not good for you. ;-)

That's kind of what I thought he was like but I didn't know he was that bad. It seems like one job in this State that is prime for corruption and assholes is Mayor. Is there a town without a Mayor under investigation or pretty much reviled for corruption? I haven't been in CT that long.

7. Sorry, I didn't mean to go off on you.
The thing is, this guy has attacked the most vulnerable people in my city. All of my complaints I have outlined for you. You can check my statements if you wish; I am perfectly comfortable with my assertions.

I HATE that New Haven is getting this reputation as having a hack political machine mayor. I want a progessive city with a progressive mayor. So many of us here are proud of our progressive, liberal history...

As to your question about corruption, I really don't know. I haven't done an exhaustive study of the mayors in CT. Certainly, Waterbury is a pretty prime suspect. Hartford and Bridgeport have some problems. And I think New Haven in on its way, if it is not saved by some ameliorating circumstances (and I don't know what they are, I am just hopeful that they are there!).

I'm most devastated by DeStefano's wanting to sell out the custodians. I feel that these people NEED Democrats to stand up for them, not use them as a bargaining chip. I voted for DeStefano in all of his mayoral races except this last one. I voted for the Green candidate (my liberal Dem spouse did not vote on the mayor line). *Sigh* It is not all paradise in the "People's Republic of New Haven."

8. I was just kidding
I know about the Rizzo case but didn't know about the custodians. Definitely a dirtbag move.

9. Of course, Rizzo was national news but you may not know that it is widely
believed here among some progressives that DeStefano was in cahoots with the local firefighters union who wanted to keep blacks and Hispanics out of the higher levels in the department by keeping the "old boys" written tests predominate in the testing scheme. DeStefano is deep in the ethnicity politics here. He could very well have used the tests that are used by cities as close to us as Bridgeport, where they have successfully integrated their Fire dept.'s upper ranks. It would have solved the entire problem before we even GOT to the level of a court case in the first place. So that's incompetence of the highest order right there. Plus, there's his sordid relationship with a local black minister who "delivers" votes to him and engages in shady dealings to keep his daughter in a prestigious local prep school...

I could go on and on but I don't want to bore you...I care very much for this community and AFAIC, the mayor is a blot on our reputation...
