4. Green Also
Voting Green for national MP. (Not having local elections in Wales today)

Quite impressed with the commitment to scrap Trident which really is a cold war white elephant, IMO.

I also like their proposal to raise basic state pensions to £177 a week ($255). Long overdue.

The "Citizens Income" proposal sounds sensible, too. The main benefit seems to be that everyone who takes paid work will be guaranteed to be better off than those who don't work (although everybody will be eligible to a basic amount) - hopefully avoiding the poverty trap that keeps some people on benefits.

Creation of community banks, and limits on land speculation..all good stuff.

And the recent problems with air travel due to volcanic ash demonstrates that the Green proposals for heavier investment in publically owned high speed rail networks makes more sense than ever.

They are the only party really mentioning peak-oil, and weaning off oil dependence, too.

6. You'd be very lucky to get a Green candidate in local elections
They aren't established as a party enough to regularly organise people to stand.

3. As I've said in the UK forum
I'm not exactly blown away by any of the candidates in my constituency. And it is really the local candidates that should matter more then the party leaders.

5. Agree there...
In a parliamentary system, do you vote against a really good local representative to spite a national party?

7. There's also the risk...
of a good party having a rotten candidate. Works both ways.

No way would I vote for either the Conservative or Labor candidate.

Fortunately in the UK one is not forced to choose the lesser of two evils.
