Red State vs. Blue States -- who would prevail?

Conservative/libertarian relative has stated repeatedly that, if we were to separate the country and give the middle states to conservatives and let them run things on their own, and the coasts would be comprised of liberals and progressives, "hands down the conservative states would do better and be more prosperous."

I know there have been charts on here before showing the hypocrisy of the red states, specifically southern states (it's an Alabama relative, btw), and how they get the most government social program funds of any.

Can you please direct me to information regarding the economic realities of red states versus blue states, and how the political ideologies lead to economic and social failures?

If you can direct me to nonpartisan sources, that would be even better, as anything even remotely resembling a "progressive" organization or website will lead him to completely ignore facts. But, what else is new, eh?

Thanks. :hi:

government. All of those states get more than $1 for every dollar they send to the national government in taxes. They would be in a world of hurt, if the Federal government didn't build ships or have major facilities in their states.

As of 2005:

MS $2.02
WV $1.76
AR $1.41
KY $1.51
AL $1.66
OK $1.36
NM $2.03
TN $1.27
MT $1.47
LA $1.78

12. go to bottom of this chart...
http://www.visualeconomics.com/united-states-federal-tax-dollars/

Tell him state taxes would increase by 30% more than current Federal taxes. Red states suckle at the government teat.

"Iowa receives 1.10 per tax dollar paid. Nebraska receives 1.10 per tax dollar paid. Wyoming receives 1.11 per tax dollar paid. Kansas receives 1.12 for each tax dollar it pays.

Arizona receives 1.19 per tax dollar paid. Idaho receives 1.21 per tax dollar paid. Tennessee receives 1.27 per tax dollar paid. Maryland receives 1.30 for each tax dollar it pays. Missouri receives 1.32 per tax dollar paid. South Carolina receives 1.35 per tax dollar paid. Oklahoma receives 1.36 per tax dollar paid. Arkansas receives 1.41 per tax dollar paid. Maine receives 1.41 per tax dollar paid. Hawaii receives 1.44 per tax dollar paid. Montana receives 1.47 per tax dollar paid.

Kentucky receives 1.51 per tax dollar paid. Virginia receives 1.51 per tax dollar paid. South Dakota receives 1.53 per tax dollar paid. Alabama receives 1.66 per tax dollar paid. North Dakota receives 1.68 per tax dollar paid. West Virginia receives 1.76 per tax dollar paid. Louisiana receives 1.78 per tax dollar paid. Alaska receives 1.84 per tax dollar paid. Mississippi receives 2.02 per tax dollar paid. New Mexico receives 2.03 per tax dollar paid."

13. Your relative....
should be aware that his is very dangerous thinking. He is presuming that ALL of the people living in the South and the Southwest are natives with no connection to the rest of the country. No state is solidly conservative or liberal and for his plan to work there would have to be mass migration from one region/ideology to another. People calling themselves conservatives would have to move from Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, California in order to live in Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina. The biggest outflow would be all the liberals who have moved to "red" areas because of cost of living, climate, jobs and don't want to alienated from their friends and families in other states.
Key is the word "alienated". What Lincoln knew and the Civil War was supposed to resolve is that we can't be 2 nations. United States money, defense, trade would become null in a region that no longer accepted our federal system in toto.
Does your relative realize that he could not travel with a U. S. passport? Does he know that every Federal benefit would be withdrawn; every federal dollar would go to the rump left after the division? U. S. currency would not be accepted. All the retailers would depart because they could not survive without the intrastate transfer of goods.
I am hearing this argument more and more coming from those angry but totally ignorant of the reality. I just want to scream!!!

15. A kid in a writing class I teach told me....
His father is excited by the prospect. They went gun shopping after the election and his dad thinks Republicans will keep the property of Liberals they kill.

I asked this kid what he thought of that.

"It's pretty stupid. We would be killing our own family members."
