Karl Rove, Republican Party plot vast network to reclaim power
Source: Politico

The Republican Party’s best-connected political operatives have quietly built a massive fundraising, organizing and advertising machine based on the model assembled by Democrats early in the decade, and with the same ambitious goal — to recapture Congress and the White House.

The new groups could give Republicans and their allies a powerful campaign apparatus separate from the Republican National Committee. Karl Rove, political architect of the Bush presidency, and Ed Gillespie, former Republican Party chairman, are the most prominent forces behind what is, in effect, a network of five overlapping groups, three of which were started in the past few months.

The operating assumption of Rove, Gillespie and the other organizers is that despite the historical dominance of Republican fundraising and organizing, the GOP has been outmaneuvered by Democrats and their allies in recent years, and it is time to strike back.

“Where they have a chess piece on the board, we need a chess piece on the board,” said Gillespie, who is involved in all five groups in roles ranging from chairman to informal adviser. “Where they have a queen, we shouldn’t have three pawns.”

...

Rove, currently on a book tour, has provided “a laying-on of hands” for the groups — as one organizer put it — by encouraging major Republican donors to support them as part of the GOP’s path to revival. “Karl has always said: People call us a vast right-wing conspiracy, but we’re really a half-assed right-wing conspiracy,” he said. “Now, he wants to get more serious.”

2. A laying-on of hands?
Were important pro-family advocates like Professor Rekers, James Dobson, Mark Foley, and Jeff Gannon involved in this laying-on of hands?

3. Hey, asshole. If you want to get serious, start by
1. Telling the truth.
2. Following the law.
3. Not destroying people's careers for political gain.

15. Why would he want to do that?

He doesn't really care about any of those things. Besides, his way (lying, cheating, etc.) has worked pretty well for him so far.

9. Thom Hartmann was talking about it this morning.
Edited on Thu May-06-10 01:14 PM by Elwood P Dowd
We are going to get carpet bombed with republican campaign ads this fall, and they will be financed by the hundreds of corporations Rove & Co. are lining up. The recent Supreme Court ruling has opened the floodgates for billions of dollars in corporate campaign money. Any pretense that we are a government of the people, by the people, and for the people is now officially gone.

I'm paraphrasing of course, but that is basically what he said and all of us know it's true. So, how do we combat this? What is the game plan?

17. Game plan
Thats the most frustrating part. It feels like the Democrats are sunning themselves on a beach. GOP bullies kicking sand in their faces and all they do is say "Hey what's your problem? Maybe we can work out a solution together" Meanwhile there's a tsunami coming in. And its like they are either ignoring that big wave off in the distance or they're not taking it seriously.

They should be, and should have been since day 1 of Obama's Presidency, going on the offensive. Reminding Americans who, for the most part, are the deregulators that caused the recession, who are the ones who drained the treasury and tripled the debt, who let a city drown, and who ignored warnings and was on duty when the worst terrorist attack happened on US soil.

They sit back and only react to the outrageous lies against them in a half hearted way. And so there is still a big chunk of the population that still thinks:
• Obama is a muslim/socialist/Kenyan
• The Democrats were just as guilty or even more so in causing the recession
• Obama is raising taxes to middle income class
• Republicans are tough on terra, Dems are weak and inept

I think its only natural for progressive/liberals to be more peace loving, laid back, can't-we-all-just-get-along. I wish we could win that way. But the other side is made up of vicious liars in promenant influencial positions in the media and flocks of willing sheep addicted to anger and desire to blame the librul elite for all their financial problems, even though its been the ones they keep voting in that have systematically raped them over the last 30 years.

Obama and the Dems need to fire up their left wing just like the Repukes have fired up the extreme right. The only problem is that Obama admin has spit on the "liberal assholes" in their base. Not fighting for at least a public option was the beginning of the end. They got nuthin now to brag about to that left wing. No reason to volunteer to get them re-elected.

12. Karl, don't leave your PowerPoint brief on a park bench this time.
And don't forget that his "numbers" were different from the pollsters "nunbers" at the end of the 2008 campaign, so he was convinced McCain was going to win.

Boy Genius my hiney.

by lying, power-grabbing and it's own stupidity. Their treatment of the American people as subnormal pawns to be used for their own benefit is of their own doing. Step off Karl, you hack.

20. Karl Rove
Karl Rove should be tried as a war criminal as should Bush,
Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Rice.

Home-grown militias formed to "defend" against the
United States government should have any of its members
arrested as enemy combatants and tried in military courts
without access to miranda rights.

21. I smell a rat named Karl Rove--a well-timed press plant to Politico
an organization that we know is complicit with the Republicans. This is probably a planted story in response to the Gallup poll yesterday that said Republican voter enthusiasm is slipping. I never trust Politico stories, especially when Karl Rove is involved.
