Here is a story about Jan Brewer that I have tried to confirmed but ...
Edited on Thu May-06-10 06:51 PM by SargeUNN
This is a story I learned of when I got here 3 years ago. I dismissed it at first even though my source was creditable, however on further investigation I can't even get a denial from the Governor or statement. Instead I am told that isn't allowed to be discussed in the office. Her son committed a sexual assault on a girl a while back and when Jan found out she committed him to a mental institution to keep him from being picked up. When the time was over for him to be charged he was allowed to leave the institution. I heard about this after I got here in Phoenix and dismissed it as just another story, but in the process of trying to get information on other issues, I happened to ask about her son. I was told that was a subject they were not allow to ever mention which led me to start believing it did happen. I have heard this story from several sources since that swear it is true and going by the reaction of her office it does give one a sense it is true.

2. Here's what's curious....
Her bio mentions that she has three sons. The oldest (John) died of cancer in 2007. The youngest (Michael) apparently is a Suns fan and got her into the team.

I can find no mention of the middle son. Not even his name.

Sounds like a scrubbing to me.

12. Her other two sons are named in the obituary for the passed one
"He is survived by his parents John L. and Janice K. Brewer; his brothers Ronald and Michael."

4. Find an investigative reporter in Arizona that you find
trustworthy and tell him/her the story. See if it leads into some digging for facts like finding out which mental institution he was incarcerated in. Hell, even send it to Rachel Maddow or Randi Rhodes. It's the kind of stuff they like to unbury.

5. Here is a little more info
My original source, who watches the state politics closely and usually very dependable, told me when the news first came out here he called a local radio station and when he mentioned it, he was cut off and not allowed to call back in. Apparently it did make the newspaper here back when it happened but I haven't been able to find out anything about it. I also find asking about it gets silence, no denial, no excuses, just silence. It is as if when you ask about it you never asked. I have also been told by others they too have asked about it and got the same answer, "We don't talk about that here or we might lose our job."

6. I posted your question on Twitter. Let's see if we get a nibble.
If not, I'll try again tomorrow.

Did #Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer have her son committed to shield him from sexual assault charges? http://tinyurl.com/266c4d5 #p2 #tlot #topprog

8. thanks like I said
I asked her office and had others do so. Since then I have been unable to get her to answer any question on any topic and when I invited her on my show, within seconds I got a form email saying she was overwhelmed with interview request. I sent a question back and got no response. The question I sent back was that I had become aware of a very similar law going into effect in Prince William County Va. and it was such a bad thing it had to be rewritten. Since I had found it in only a short time I had to wonder if she was aware of it before she signed the bill, or had she not been informed of the several places such actions had been taken only to be removed. She seems to be hiding and maybe and I say maybe, it is a lesson learned from the alledged son's event.

9. If it was in the newspaper, check the library or paper's morgue
A newspaper 'morgue' is their back files, if you didn't already know. But I would see if the public library has a collection, also. What you want are the physical papers, rather than rely on internet records.

If you do not have a pretty accurate date, it will mean a lot of hunting through back files. BUT either of those two places could be easily scrubbed if someone is dedicated enough to get in and steal the copy.

11. I need some year and unfortunately I lost my original contact
thanks to all the crap with Nova M and KPHX I seldom see my first source and they don't have a computer. However I am going to work on one of my other sources to get a year. People really get nervous when you bring it up and most really are hesitate to respond to it. Thanks I appreciate all the advice and welcome any other suggestions or if anyone remembers it.

10. Went looking for son John's obituary
Found this: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/azcentral/obituary.aspx?page=lifestory&pid=86228567

According to this the 3rd rarely mentioned son's name is Ronald.

14. I have gotten someone else who read this and ...
when they read Ronald that jarred a memory of the event and seem to remember he was the son involved but where not sure. Seems Brewer was head of the Arizona Senate at the time. Keep it up folks and we just might break this one.

15. I found this about Ken Bennett, and son Clifton.
"A 2006 plea bargain involving Ken's son, Clifton, became controversial after several parents of victims accused Ken of exerting undue influence to affect the case.<9> In what a county attorney described as a summer camp "hazing ritual" gone wrong, Clifton and another man poked 17 clothed campers in the buttocks using a broom stick. Ultimately Clifton, –only 17 years old and a minor, plead guilty to one count of aggravated assault. Clifton was sentenced to 30 days in jail and three years probation. Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard, said he "had questions about the handling of the case," but that his office had no authority to intervene.<10> Yavapai County Attorney Sheila Polk defended the plea bargain and accused the news media of misrepresenting the issue. <11>"

Bennett & Brewer are suppose to be close, could you have been told this story. 2006 is about the right time frame.

16. No it is a different story
The person who told me this story mentioned it to me about Brewer and has several times. I have heard the story from others as well on different occassions and I did ask if it Brewer. I don't know Bennett first hand but have someone who knows him very well so I knew of that story from them.

17. It's strange. No pictures with sons on any sites, no mention of any
husband, sons, grandchildren etc. except the death of her 37 year-old middle son in 2007.

I have not read everything, but the articles that I have read are really private. Very private.
