Krugman: Good News. Jobs Outpacing Population Growth
Edited on Fri May-07-10 11:08 AM by berni_mccoy
From http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/05/07/jobs-jobs-jobs/

An actually good employment report. A reminder: there are two separate surveys, one of employers — which is where the 290,000 jobs number comes from — and one of households, which is where the 9.9 percent unemployment rate comes from. Sampling error, seasonal adjustments, and other technical factors can make these reports give contradictory indications.

Actually, though, in this case they’re both positive. My favorite indicator from the household survey isn’t the unemployment rate, it’s the employment-population ratio — and that’s up, from 58.6 to 58.8. In fact, it has been rising since December. At this point it’s clear that the economy is adding jobs, and doing so faster than population growth.

We have a ways to go before we are out of the woods, as Krugman notes, but no one with any credibility can deny the good news or that it is a result of Obama's economic policy.

5. I like Krugman. But every time he says anything, someone will show up and declare him
incompetent. Then he'll say something else and the same person will declare him a genius. And so on.

8. There is a huge difference between "I disagree with him on this issue" and
"He's a capitalist tool!" or "He's always hated Obama"

22. Really? That's how you took it?
Cause my point was that sometimes he's right and sometimes he's wrong-similar to others of the human species.

23. Take whoever's word you like.
I've yet to find anyone who's correct all the time which was the point of my post. I have an aversion to putting 100% faith in any one human.

2. I don't know if the economy will be booming by November '10, but it certainly will be by November
of 2012 when Obama is up for re-election.

14. If This Continues, It Will Be TANGIBLY Improved In Nov.
Edited on Fri May-07-10 11:45 AM by Beetwasher
The economy will be noticeably better come Nov. if these data continue on their current trajectory.

Since this is good for the country, Repubs should be happy about these numbers. They will however instead be taking massive dumps in their underwear as they see the possibility of their gains in Nov. going up in smoke.

11. True
...but when some thrive on negativity and bashing the Democratic party while promoting a minority status, this is, of course, bad news because the simpleton mentality says that 9.9 is bigger than 9.7. This from people with IQs greater that 140 who know better. Intellectual dishonesty at it's finest.

13. I'm getting tired of it...
Regardless of the issue, or the facts about the issue, there are posters who will submit the most negative spin possible, the most biasly slanted interpretation of the facts, and their fanbois and girls will clap them on the back and rec the thread with impunity.
