1. Think Congress, 2006-2008
The Democrats had a razor thin majority and the GOP, in concert with Stupid, were able to block everything they proposed.

7. Quite a bit
Stupid would have vetoed the tepid health insurance reform that got through. There would have been no override of his veto.

2. Liz would have to have kind of back and forth teas with Cameron and Brown.
QEII: Oh dear.

4. Probably new elections sooner rather than later.

Even if the Liberal Democrats make a deal with the Tories, a new election is likely by early next year. Minority governments don't tend to last.

Liberal Democrats could make a deal with Labour, but the idea of Gordon Brown remaining is a fairly unpopular political possibility and unlikely.

Either way, some kind of deal will be made. If the Liberal Democrats refuse to make a deal and arrest government, they'd be shooting themselves in the foot. No party wants to be seen as the ones who are holding the very formation of a new government hostage in the name of political advantage. It's in Clegg's interest to extract as many concessions as possible before playing kingmaker.

8. I don't know about minority governments not lasting, Canada has had one
for a fairly long time actually.

9. Then labor gets a shot at wooing them.
And they will likely deal with one or the other -- then pull out at an opportune time and force new elections.

10. Look to your south, brother

Canada (including Windsor) operates on a parliamentary system derived directly from Britain's.

edit: Harper's been in there for a good while thanks to a similar, but even more bizarre, coalition with, among others, the left-leaning NDP.
