6. A hurricane may be needed
Better the oil is on land than in the water. We use oil on land in the billions of gallons a year department. The land forms can adapt, and it would be easier to clean up from the land.

Copious amounts of rain would fall, flushing the marshes.
Winds and waves would disperse the oil residues.

The best thing that can happen now is that the gulf is flushed out and we share our error with a greater body of water: the Atlantic.

We may be praying for hurricanes before this is all over?
