Hummingbird Cam - baby "Hope" hatched this morning - Happy Mother's Day Phoebe!
The second egg due to hatch Monday or Tuesday. Adorable Mother's Day gift to all the viewers at Pheobe Allen's webcam, especially after her last two nesting failures.

The baby is soooo tiny.... their eggs are only about the size of a Tic Tac mint! It has sort of yellow "egg tooth" right now that will be replaced by a long hummingbird bill

Saw my first female this morning (ruby-throated)!

Cool webcam!! :hug:

EDIT: Just before 7pm EDT, the little lady flew off to get some food and I saw the baby. Mom came back, fed it, and hopped back on the nest.

16. The lizard didn't get those eggs
but 1 chick died trying to hatch and the other egg wasn't viable so after a couple days Phoebe carried off the one that had tried to hatch somewhere, and then abandoned the other one. Then she laid another clutch of two eggs that a bigger bird stole. Then these. I hope these chicks thrive and that we get to watch them until they fly away.

So fun to watch!

15. Awww, I was able to see the baby! So tiny! Momma Phoebe is there now.
Thanks for the link housewolf. I tried viewing it before but the phoebeallen site never worked for me. Ustream is working just fine.

I didn't get anything done for a week watching the last set of eggs every waking hour.

Anyway, best wishes to one of the most famous hummingbirds on earth, and her offspring.
