Can anyone tell me why or how Bing is any better than Google...
For the life of me I can't really see all that much difference.

Maybe I'm missing some key point or some hidden "ap" that I don't know about.

But Bing just seems to be a hyped up search engine like all the rest.

Well, Bing does have that unintentionally creepy vampire commercial where the hunky Vampire is about to chomp on the cute waifs neck and she giggles about it all the while searching on Bing which, if she is already part of the walking dead, would give her all the time in the world so that having a fast search engine would mean absolutely nothing...

1. Bing is just a redesigned live.com search engine
and a bad one.

Google should NOT imitate Bing in any way, but I can see that they are starting to copy Bing.

Google will not be my search engine of choice for much longer, I daresay, if they keep doing that shit.

2. Bing has that cool birds-eye view in its map-search
Though Google's streetview is pretty nifty, too.

Gosh gosh gosh. I can't decide!

(actually, I never use Bing as a generic search tool. For my purposes Google is far superior in this regard.)

4. No.
I use Yahoo! Search, except for images, which they ruined when they bought Flickr, forcing me to turn to "the Google".

5. If you value your privacy, try Clusty.
I find it works as well or better than either, and as I understand, they don't track you the way most other search engines do, including Google and Bing.

37. Neither
does Scroogle.org - I like my privacy.

I'm pretty tired of Microsoft right now, which is why I don't want to use Bing.

8. I suppose you can compare search engines
to burger joints. Who has the best for the least? McDonalds, Burger King, In&Out, Sonic, Jack in the Box. Etc. Seems they are the same with some variations. The joys of free market competition.

12. You can compare their results with Bing vs. Google
Enter the search term once; it searches via both and returns both results: http://www.bing-vs-google.com/

There was a very good article on "All Things Considered" a couple of months ago about which one was better -- maybe the segment was during "All Tech Considered"? Anyway, the reporter concluded that if you're looking for something commercial, Bing was probably better. If you're looking for general knowledge, Google is better. Personally, I hate Bing.

34. Thing is, when you've made it into the vernacular as both a noun AND a verb...
...you really don't need much additional marketing. As time goes on, "google" might achieve the exalted status of "kleenex" as a catchall for the entire genre.

18. could someone tell me how to get bing off my toolbar? it seemingly installed itself &
though there's an option to manage my default search engine, when i go to that tab -- the "remove" button doesn't activate.

i don't want bing, or a "default" search engine, installed on my machine.

35. The Q&D approach...
is to go into "Tools", look for "Toolbars", and see if it's checked. If it is, uncheck it. Poof! all gone.

That won't stop it from curving your spine, infecting your brain, and losing the war for the Allies (since the code is still there taking up your hard drive space), but at least you won't see it amymore.

I couln't get it off but a friend somehow managed to remove it. It made me really mad that it got on there without my knowledge or acceptance of it. I wanted it off for principle alone, plus I didn't like it as a search either.

23. What I do is
use google as I find I like it best. I'm now using Ubuntu and Firefox and I use the exceptions to allow the web sites I trust to store a cookie on my computer and then keep cookies turned off. I don't have any issues where I can't do something because of that either. If by chance I go to a site that requires a cookie set on my computer and I'll only be there for once I'll turn cookies back on and let it put the cookie then as soon as I go away from that place I erase the cookie. Right at the moment the only cookie I have on my computer is the one from du. No one is tracking me and it causes no problems on my end. Very seldom do I have to enable cookies to do something I want to do. eBay requires a cookie, so does paypal and text messaging and other than that I don't see the need for having a bunch of cookies that I can't eat, btw, on my computer. I add google to the don't allow list and a few others like bbc. Why bbc always tries to sneak one on my computer is beyond me cause I never go to their site.

29. I thought Bing was Microsoft's default search engine....
Just got a Windows upgrade and Bing is the de facto search engine -- if I do a search, that's what I get. If I had to look for a difference between Google and Bing, I'd have to say that maybe Google brings up more immediate, relevant results. But no, there's not much difference between the two.

Bing does all the thinking for you. Google gives you, like, 10 different results per page. What the hell? Am I supposed to be like fucking William Einstein or something? Gah!
