Examiner (Charlotte)The agreement between General Stanley McChrystal and the White house was that the General must provide quantifiable proof the U.S. war plan was working in Afghanistan by December, as well as show that the “overall transition to stability and vastly improved governance" has been completed by that time.
However, McChrystal’s plan isn’t achieving its proposed objectives thus far – and the Pentagon is not giving McChrystal much leeway. It appears every report and “unofficial” line emanating from the White House is negative about McChrystal’s execution, as if prepping the ground for a planned withdrawal in mid-2011.
White House and military brass are not delighted with U.S. accomplishments - or lack thereof - in the provinces of Marjah and Helmund and are questioning the unfolding strategy in Kandahar. Meanwhile, the American public is quickly losing confidence that the war in Afghanistan is worth the cost according to recent polls.
