Wow, someone got smart and asked Kagan's friends: She's straight
Ok, I don't trust the source, Politico, but this seems like a smartly done report.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0510/So_shes_not_a_lesbian.html?showall#

Elena Kagan is not a lesbian, one of her best friends told POLITICO Tuesday night, responding to persistent rumors and innuendo about the Supreme Court nominee’s personal life.

“I’ve known her for most of her adult life and I know she’s straight,” said Sarah Walzer, Kagan’s roommate in law school and a close friend since then. “She dated men when we were in law school, we talked about men -- who in our class was cute, who she would like to date, all of those things. She definitely dated when she was in D.C. after law school, when she was in Chicago – and she just didn’t find the right person.”
...
Another friend, former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, a member of Kagan’s social circle at Princeton University, wanted to make the same point as Walzer. “I did not go out with her, but other guys did,” he said in an email Tuesday night. “I don't think it is my place to say more.”

That could be the key to this mystery.

Did they ask her how many birthmarks she has as well?

Does she like to whistle just for fun?

Can she fart Beethoven's 5th???

3. I've asked that same question myself. But consider this...
if she were a lesbian and her nomination successful, I believe it would mean as much to the GLBT community as Obama being elected President did to the African American community.

But I know what you are saying... it shouldn't matter.

Unfortunately, bigotry and racism are well alive in the U.S. of A.

and doesn't have children is still considered a social oddity.

I know, I am one.

12. and men as well.. Crist got married all of a sudden rather late in life
so did Roberts ...

"Most" people do not wait until late in life to "pair-bond", regardless of their sexual orientation.

It's the unusual person who makes it well into their 40's having never married, been engaged or been in an obvious relationship.

Is it "good"/"bad"?.... it's neither..it's just unusual, and when people put themselves into a spotlight, they invite questions about every facet of their lives..past and present.

He didn't 'just happen' to never have remarried for all these years for no reason (he was divorced after a very brief marriage years ago). I hope that he does come out one day (just to watch the repukes heads pop off).

The question of sexuality doesn't even come to mind. Which begs the question...what kind of mentality has this question pop up both first and in relevancy?

What kind of mentality are we espousing in people to even question this as relevant and of such vital importance that it must be among the first questions asked???

Call me crazy but I'm actually keen to know her real stances on various items...coming from her OWN mouth.

Ms. Kagan has other things to think about right now, as well, I suspect!:)

4. If you don't trust Politico
Then why do you use it as a source? Is it because you simply agree with this article? Yet, when they print stuff you don't agree with then they become a source people shouldn't trust?

The things I don't trust are how they spin comments from unnamed sources typically in the Administration. However, these quotes are named and there isn't much to spin on it.

that are seen as favorable to the current administration and unreliable when they publish things that are seen as unfavorable to the current administration.

That's easy enough.

publishing things from named sources and things from unnamed sources.

I am willing to listen to what politico is saying if its named sources, tho i will still be trying to look for alternate sources verifying it since i still wouldn't trust politico itself further then i could lift it

Can't she just be "none of the above"?

This same issue dogs Willa Cather scholarship. Cather dressed like a man most of her life, lived with several women (and never lived with a man), but she NEVER identified herself as a lesbian. Yet many scholars with an agenda feel the need to pigeonhole her work as "lesbian studies".

At the most I would call somebody like Cather "queer" in the sense that it is used in academia to mean somebody who does not fit within usual social norms.
