Newsweek columnist Ramin Setoodeh has ignited a tinderbox of outrage — including calls for a boycott against the magazine — for an April 26 column in which he suggests that actors who are queer should steer clear of he-man roles.
To wit, Setoodeh points to Sean Hayes’ performance in the Broadway production of Promises, Promises, in which he argues Hayes fails utterly in his portrayal of a straight character. Setoodeh then cites Jonathan Groff’s womanizer role on Glee as another queer wolf in straight fleece clothing.
