1. Amazingly a poll conducted this week shows
60% approve continued drilling in our waters.

2. That top picture multiplied by 5000 square miles.
I feel sick.
The Gulf of Mexico, my beloved gulf, has been sacrificed on the altar of deregulated greed.

3. Anyone hear that motherfucker Haley Barbour on NPR this morning?
He was pushing that whole "don't worry, be happy" meme, and trying to claim that his own prayers were the thing that was keeping the oil from his own pristine shoreline.

6. Outstanding photos that really tell the heartbreaking story.
Haven't seen too much like that on the tee vee. Wonder if all that Big Oil advertising has anything to do with it?

The media blackout can't all be due to cross-ownership between Big Oil and Big Media. Corporate McPravda wouldn't let down democracy, would it?

12. Been wondering about the lack of coverage myself
HUGE news story - they will spend days on end when someone famous dies or some white lady goes missing, major catastrophe though gets but a blip - but then it, like the wars, are tied to big oil.

7. If you ever need proof of how brainless the U.S. has become
the reaction to this oil spill is it. Compare this reaction to that of the 1969 Santa Barbara spill, when public outrage resulted in a number of environmental laws, including Earth Day. Or even compare it to the Three Mile Island public reaction. We've become brain dead and Fox-ed. So sad.

9. Well, in defense of Americans...
tv news was not so tightly controlled in 1969. It was easier to get the message out on the airwaves when people didn't have 350 channels of bullshit, only 3 or 4 channels back in the day when tv news hired actual newspeople.

8. Too bad the "Dead Sea" has already been taken.

Because the Gulf of Mexico would certainly qualify for that title now. An uncapped well has been gushing for weeks and there is no practical end in sight. All the ones who caused it can do is to point fingers at one another while they tinker with the problem to make it appear they are actually doing something.

The greedy bastards. They were so driven by the profit motive that they said the hell with taking any safeguards.

14. The responses to the photos really does show a very uneducated population.
The fact that so few understand ecosystem, food chain, and natural resources within their connection to the world in general is rather disgusting. Its not rocket science to understand the basics.. there's no math involved in understanding the web of life. No wonder we are fed HFCS and GMO foods and eat beef rejected by even Mexico.
