I wonder if simple labeling wouldn't solve all of our election issues
I propose that our two major political parties go ahead and split apart into the 4 obvious factions that have developed.

The Republicans would become Tea Baggers versus Country Club Corporatists - TBs against CCCs

Democrats would split into Nicer Republicans vs New Dealers - NRs against the NDs
(This is just my shorthand descriptions for DLC types vs old fashioned liberal social justice types. If you can think of better acronyms, fine.)

Imagine that a single candidate from each of the four factions runs in every election. We would all have clear choices and would not ever have to vote for again for someone we didn't feel good about or the so called lesser of two evils. Simple majority wins.

It would be EXTREMELY interesting to speculate which faction would carry which areas.

1. Sounds good but I'd prefer individual corporate labels.

7. Now we're talking corporate sponsorships/ownership, a definite part of the mix
The candidates should still retain their party schism label which deals more with idealogy but they could definitely wear nascar type outfits to disclose sponsors.

6. Exactly:
"The honorable senator from Monsanto," "The esteemed representative from Boeing," etc.

2. that names you chose are contentious. But the partys won't let that happen
that would mean actual democracy would be in play. And our two party system is only interested in dividing the power (and money) into two halves of the pie.

4.  I don't care what the factions are actually called, I just know they actually exist
I have a problem reining in my cynical sense of humor sometimes. Perhaps I shouldn't have referred to DLC types as Nicer Republicans just because that reflects my opinion of them. That may be a "contentious" description, but I think it is fairly accurate. However "DLC" would suffice.

3. Here's what I see happening.
As the teabaggers get more & more extreme, the remaining sane republicans will jump ship to the democratic party, taking the dem party even further to the right. Centrists dem voters probably won't mind. Repub voters might rebel a little, but after evaluating the wacko right, will realize they have little choice but to join the dem party. Real liberals may or may not splinter off from the dems & form their own party.

I think it looks very grim for liberals for a long time.
