Crude Catastrophe: BP Oil Spill Disaster Photos

It's been over three weeks since the April 20 explosion on the Transocean Ltd. Deepwater Horizon state-of-the-art oil rig, leased and operated by BP. The ensuing fire destroyed the rig, which sunk to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. A ruptured oil pipe has been spewing northwards of 5,000 barrels of light sweet Louisiana crude into the Gulf since the rig went down.

The Big Picture section over at Boston.com has a gallery of 40 photos which depict the disaster as it unfolds into an increasingly catastrophic environmental event.
