Kick Ass the Movie
I'm yet to see this movie, but I will see it on
DVD.

I first saw the original trailer that aired on TV, and thought
that would be a fun movie, then when it came out, I found
that our censor had given this thing an R18. (like your nc-17)

I went on several messages boards to see all heck had broken loose.

I mean the movie is about a bunch of normal people being superhero's including a 11 year old girl who shots bad guys in the head, cut off their legs with
a sword and kills a number of bad guys in a killing spree, along with her father who
is played by the great Nicolas Cage.

So I thought, people aren't going to like that, a kid in
a real violent movie, but oh no, the fuss wasn't about the
violence at all, that was okay, all the fuss is that the
kid actress uses naughty language.

All these parent groups, family groups, were more concerned
with a couple of swears she says.

I'm quite stunned by this, I'm pretty sure in real life she
hears worse at school.

So why all the fuss over bad language?

It seems violence is okay, but language isn't.

Here's hoping the false hysteria will die down, and
the sequel would be given a fairer chance.

1. "False hysteria?" Children shouldn't curse. Movies shouldn't glorify cursing children.
It's not cute. It's not funny.

2. If its done right in a satire type way, it can be funny
Edited on Sat May-15-10 11:17 PM by brettdale
It is, The south park movie, etc.

I just find it starnge that people are concerned with the swears, and not the murders, the kid commits.

Its a fan boy type movie isnt it.

3. I don't get it
And kids swear alot. I swore like a sailor when I was a kid, lol. Just not in front of mom and dad ;-) Loved the movie, by the way. I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone, but the swearing makes perfect sense with how the character was raised.

6. What's wrong with cursing?
Edited on Sat May-15-10 11:41 PM by Marr
It's not carcinogenic. It's not even a "sin". I barely understand the objection in real life, but in a fictional story, it leaves me completely baffled.

It's more than a little silly to think your personal sense of propriety should limit other peoples' creative output.

16. The real problem here is that prudes shouldn't go out and watch movies.
They should stay at home with their pearl necklaces and their cream of wheat.

violence, murder, adultery, drunkenness, rowdiness, stealing, arrogance, speeding, vandalism, investment banking, jealousy...

I agree with you. Let's ban all movies.

24. First post in the thread, and already missed the point of the OP by a mile...
This thread is not about whether cursing is right or wrong for a child, it is about whether it is silly to complain about the cursing and completely ignore the fact that the child actress is making a movie where she chops people's legs off at the same time.

But you know that, and just wanted to be provocative, right? I suppose you were right to do so, since your post provoced responses that were just as off-topic. If that was your goal, congratulations.

I really sometimes wonder about such posts, whether they are for real or just people posing.

21. Did you feel dirty?
The fact an 11 year old girl shooting girl shooting people in the head made me laugh, makes me think there is something severely wrong with me.

26. Not really...
it didnt make me feel any different than when I play Grand Theft Auto and go on a crime spree murdering people for their money or running them over.

8. This movie was horrible
The only redeeming value was watching a grown man in a fight to the death with a 12 year old girl

It started off strong but went downhill quick.

11. The movie started off with a Superbad type feel
Then it slowly started shifting from raunchy comedy to surreal drama.

Yes...strange controversy. I don't know what I found more appealing: the murder or the swearing. Her character was great.

15. Yup. She stole the show.
She's been cast as the vampire girl
in the American re-make of "Let the Right One In".

She's fantastic.

Yes. We teach our children that the war in Afghanistan is necessary, but "teh bad language" is wrong. Fucked up society.

By the way, I liked the movie.
