the proposed solutions generally are. Here is an example of some:
1.There are those who want illegal immigration stopped because they are scared, xenophobic, maybe even racist or bigoted, and generally as part of identity politics. Usual proposed solution: More border security, border walls, mass deportation of all illegal immigrants.
2.There are those who want amnesty/open borders because they want more power for Hispanics as a group as part of identity politics, sometimes with roots in racism and bigotry. Usual proposed solution: Full amnesty and some sort of lightly regulated open border.
3.There are those who want the status quo because they're business interests or lobby for those interests and want to keep the stream of cheap labor flowing. Usual proposed solution: What solution? The status quo is just fine.
4.There are those who want illegal immigration stopped because it depresses the wages of American workers in certain industries and leads to labor violations. Usual proposed solution: Much harsher penalties for employers of illegal immigrants, more regulation of industry in general, amnesty (with conditions) for those already working here.
5.There are those who want amnesty/open borders because of the humanitarian aspect of the plight of illegal immigration and the economic forces that push them to immigrate. Usual proposed solution: Full amnesty, an end to bad/corrupt regimes/governments in other countries, an end to any US support, economic or otherwise, of those bad governments, open borders.
6.There are those who want illegal immigration stopped because they want the law of the land upheld and enforced to bring stability to the border and the humanitarian crises of the illegal immigrants being exploited by coyotes, drug dealers, and corporations. Usual proposed solution: Amnesity with conditions, more border security, more federal regulators going after businesses that employ illegal immigrants, more resources for existing laws, expanded legal immigration.
7.There are those who want amnesty/open borders because borders shouldn't exist. Usual proposed solution: Full amnesty, completely open borders.
This list isn't exhaustive, and many hold multiple of these views. These are just examples and generalizations. I personally lean more towards 4, but some of 6 as well. I'm guessing you can tell what the partisan solutions represent. Just remember when debating illegal immigration with your fellow DUers that it's not where they stand on the issue as much as the proposed solution that matters. I've seen too many accusations of conservativism about this issue that isn't actually warranted or even really the issue, but rather a distraction.
You may also want to consider the viability of the solutions and whether they can be implemented.
