(Vaguely) Interesting: Encore Network is showing the film "Dead Bang" again...
Edited on Sat May-22-10 04:43 AM by PCIntern
Anyone else here find it rather fascinating that the cable networks resurrect a film here and there, seemingly out of nowhere when the news or politics turn in that direction?

Dead Bang is a Don Johnson film, made in the late 80's, wherein he tracks a cop killer who is tied to the Neo-Nazi-homegrown-terrorist groups, coincidentally, and this was before the OK City Bomber, partially taking place right in Oklahoma City itself. The notion that there is actually an umbrella group financing the movement is of course, first met with 'derision and scorn' by the Feds and the higher-ups in the LAPD, but after a while it is made clear, in the way that Hollywood makes clear, that the protagonist is correct in his assumptions.

The fact is, this is not really all that far removed from today's reality, and anyone who ever thought that the Hate movement in this country died years ago is mightily mistaken.

Mediocre film at best: moderately decent premise even at the time. PCIntern rates it a B-/C+ overall (on a curve since the other Skinemax films weren't so hot this A.M.)...A- for present-day relevance.

2. It's not a "Don Johnson" film. It's a John Frankenheimer film. n/t.

3. Gee...so sorry!
You're absolutely right...it's 5 in the AM and who was I not to note that Frankenheimer directed the film...I'm certain he considered it to have been one of the shining lights of his career :sarcasm: and that what I meant to say was that it was a film starring Don Johnson but let me ask you one question: In conversing with individuals, do you say, "It was a Shirley Temple movie..." or "It was a Walter Lang movie with Shirley Temple."?

Just askin'...

5. The only "Shirley Temple" movie I like Is Wee Willie Winkie, directed by John Ford.
Dead Bang is a nifty little film made by a guy who specialized in 'political' thrillers.

Check out his Year Of The Gun. Another lost film.

Actors are cattle.

4. Ever see Betrayed?
It could essentially take place today. Just change a few aspects of it and you've got the militia, tea-bagging movement down perfectly.
