Senator wants corporate welfare for BP
US Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee member Lisa Murkowski has urged Congress not to overreact legislatively to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

On May 13, Murkowski and other Republicans blocked Senate Democratic attempts to pass the "Big Oil Bailout Prevention Liability Act" which would cap BP's liability at $10 billion, even if damages from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill surpass that figure. The company already estimates that the spill will cost $450 million to clean up.

The senator from Alaska said the Republicans blocked the bill because they believe that if the liability cap is raised, that might exclude small oil companies from being able to get the insurance and financing necessary to drill offshore.

It has been reported that Murkowski, a drilling supporter, has received at least $300,000 in campaign contributions from the oil and gas industry.

2. She must be deep in their debt to say something that stupid.
Unbelievable.

They need corporate welfare about as much as she does.

4. This is the Republicon play book. They hate small business, but
when the large corporations are to be held accountable, they start weeping for the small businesses.

How many small business are lined up to drill in the Gulf? I'd like to see the names.
