Hundreds Of 'Pot Plants' Seized By Texas Cops Aren't Marijuana
Maybe there should be an IQ test for police officers. What was first thought to be one of the largest marijuana seizures in the Corpus Christi Police Department's history turned into an embarrassing incident for the cops, as the clueless officers spent a busy and exciting evening harvesting hundreds of harmless weeds from a city park.

The revealing incident began when a teenager riding his bike through Waldron Park in Flour Bluff discovered what he thought were pot plants growing there about 8 p.m Thursday, reports Bart Bedsole of KRIStv.com.

The would-be junior narc wasted no time in excitedly reporting his "find."

SNIP

Exhausted officers only stopped collecting the harmless plants because it got too dark to work; they planned to return bright and early in the morning to look around for more marijuana.

Trouble is, after spending more than an hour laboriously removing and tagging hundreds of plants, and then hauling it all to the police department downtown, testing revealed that none of it was marijuana at all.

1. I grow two flowers - Cleome and Hibiscus coccinea. Both look very much like pot.
Our neighbors on occasion take a look at these growing and ask a bit sheepishly what they are!

10. Oh, I have to get me some of those!!!
Every summer we get the drug seeking helicopters and small planes flying over my area looking for fields of pot.

I could plant some of those and wait for the entertainment...

SWAT teams and DEA agents landing out by my pond.

We've been a little short on excitement since the "Sasquatch" footprints reported by a bored teenager were exposed as fakes

26. I hope your joking. You could very well get killed if they raid you.
That garden shovel or cell phone in your hand looks like a handgun loaded with "cop killer" bullets to the average dumb-as-a-post Drug Warrior. They'll fill you full of holes in a nanosecond.

If you own a dog, then there is a 99% certainty it will be blown by away the team assigned to specifically do that task.

40. Yep, I'm joking, of course...
A number of years back we had a little bit of logging done on the property out back.

The planes flew over more often (and lower) than usual for at least three years after that.

We didn't have clear cutting done, but any bit of tree clearance is cause for suspicion out here, apparently.

It was sort of disconcerting, in a way, to be the object of so much close attention.

:scared:

11. Japanese maples and hops have somewhat similar leaves, I think. (Although if the cops had mistaken
_trees_ for weed that would have been far more embarrassing. :rofl)

21. I have not been able to get it to come back here.
Mom has it in her garden downstate in Central Florida, and has given me seed and transplants. It will do fine over the summer, but never returns the next spring. I love them because they have such lovely big flowers. I thought maybe it was too cold here, but if it is living in NC, it should do fine in North Florida.

What kind of soil and conditions are your growing in? Maybe I have not tried the right places.

22. It likes it quite wet, and partial shade. We've done nothing special -
it is growing in pretty crappy clay soil. I think water retention is important. Also, it emerges quite late. Still, the seed pods set after the flowers, and once they dry, it is easy to collect seed and it germinates very easily.

30. So the spot I picked is perfect.
It stays damp from runoff from the house, is shaded part of the day but gets afternoon light. The soil there is pretty rich, though with years of mulch from leaves. Maybe it will come back eventually. We had that severe cold spell and I did lose several plants so I've been pessimistic.

Thanks!

31. Lady Baltimore Hibiscus looks VERY close to pot. Two things give it away:
1)NOT so obvious: the odd-number of "leaves" are actually joined at the base to make one leaf, not individual leaves that meet at the branch.
2)REALLY obvious: it has 8" screaming pink flowers.

36. Good neighbors narc each other out.
The cops pulled up to this guys house and start ripping out all the weeds in his garden. The guy come out and asks, What in the hell are you doing? A cop tells him, one of your neighbors called and said you were growing Marijuana in your garden and we're gonna find it even if we have to rip out every last weed. That they did. But they didn't find any Marijuana growing. So they went away. The guy went back in house and the phone rang. It was his next door neighbor. He says, I called the police on you. Have they been there yet? The guy says, yes they have and they ripped every last weed out of my garden. Now I'm gonna call the police on you and tell them you're hiding cocaine in hollowed out logs. They should be done chopping your firewood about an hour after I call.

Not that it wasn't already blatantly obvious but some people require having their noses rubbed in things more than others.

13. No doubt.
The kids at public school receive extensive drug education (both formally in the classroom, and informally, if you know what I mean) and would likely know a real pot plant if they saw one.

18. This is another example of why they need DOPERS to do this work!
Only pot users should be eligible for these jobs. And they would have to be tested to determine whether they have levels of THC in their hair regularly, and if they are free of THC they get fired.

The leaves look a little similar . . . oh well.

29. Reminds me of the joke about the guy...
Reminds me of the joke about the guy who called the police to tell them his neighbor was hiding drugs under his house. The DEA came out and spent days digging. Finding nothing they left the neighbor with a big hole under his house. The neighbor then called the DEA to tell them his neighbor was hiding drugs in logs behind his shed. The DEA spent days splitting open the logs. Finding nothing, the DEA left. This first guy wanders across the street to talk to his neighbor. "Hey Bill", he says, "did you get your basement dug?" "Yep." the neighbor replied; "did you get your firewood split?"

39. Why do they always have cops do the labor...
... of pulling the "weeds"?

Can't they hire a landscaper/general laborer to do this and have a couple of cops sit and supervise (keep the weed from going to the wrong pile) instead of 10 to 20 cops doing manual labor.

Aren't there some real crimes that could use a little attention?

Heck just walking the beat would be better then this waste of time.

I mean, what a friggin' waste of taxpayer $. Cops pulling weeds (either the real deal or otherwise).

Plus, a landscaper might have spotted the problem a lot earlier.

Twits.
