9. Arco is the only BP on the West Coast, as far as I know
fortunately I was already "boycotting" them, because their gas always seems like its watered down or something.

There were BP stations around here in the 90's, but they're all long gone. Sold to another company... either Shell or Union 76 (forget which one)

once and it seemed that I didn't get as good mileage as I was used to. Haven't used it since.

11. From Answers.com...
Edited on Sat May-22-10 11:12 PM by live love laugh
"As to Costco, they (like any other retailer including even branded gasoline stations) get their gas from a nearby wholesaler. Often everyone in town is selling gas from the same refinery and wholesaler -- the only difference is that they will add a special additive if that is what the retailer advertises. For example, if you buy gas because it is advertised to contain "agent boy-o-boy", the wholesaler or refiner will add that when the tanker picks up the fuel for that retailer. Otherwise, the gasoline tanker may stop at a several retailers (of several different brands) on the way down the road filling up their storage tanks.

So everyone is selling Saudi oil except Citgo who is definitely selling oil from Chaves government.
Note: There are comments associated with this question. See the discussion page to add to the conversation."

Disappointing but I still think BP should be targeted through their stations.

distribution point everybody else's gas comes from.

Not popular but not buying from BP will prove more difficult than not just driving to their gas station... it is the fungible nature of the bidness.

23. WE have given the oil companies the power
WE need to take it back.

There are any number of threads on DU and websites elsewhere that give suggestions on how to cut down on use of petroleum products. The obvious one of course is to drive less if at all possible. But also cut down on the use of plastics, non-local and/or non-seasonal produce, and so on. You'll probably find out it helps your own bottom line, too.

30. BP sells oil to refineries, that refine oil for every brand of gas...
so if you are going to boycott BP, you have to boycott all gas stations.

And boycotting their gas stations doesn't hurt them.

For the record, here in California I have never bought gas at a BP station. I either buy gas at AM/PM, Costco, or Navy Commissary. At every one of those places I buy gas made from BP oil.

All gas stations get their gas from the same refineries so by boycotting ____________, you are hurting the independent store franchises rather than BP. Ever since the Exxon Valdez, I've refused to buy gas at Exxon (and now Mobil) stations. And if that other poster was right, I was just wasting my time.

48. That's correct. Americans need a clearer picture
of how the oil markets work. The upside is the PR effect, so no it wasn't a total waste. The franchise changed mom and pop owners, the station rebranded and got its gas from the same source.

The other notion that needs disabusing is the "our oil" nonsense.
