A question Re: Political ads on DU
Someone has no doubt already asked this but it is the first time for me. When I signed on today I was greeted by not one but TWO ads for the Republican Gubernatorial candidate for my state of Pennsylvania. Why the FUCK are ads for Republicans running on DU? And Can anything be done to stop this? It find it distasteful to see an ad for a self aggrandizing Republican a-hole like Tom Corbett on this site who's mission is to support the Democratic party and its candidates at all levels of electoral politics.

Please help me understand,

DWilliamsAMH

1. It's just google. When we bring up a subject, Google thinks we are
interested in it.

2. We suck their ad money away from markets where they might actually impress people.
It's brilliant!

Many here use adblockers or know how to set preferences to not see them at all.

3. Web Advertising
The web is set up so that if a site such as DU accepts advertising (and the financial benefit it brings) that advertisement pop up based on key words. If we talk about Republicans, then Republican ads pop up.

I was on another non-political web site. We were trashing a certain restaurant (now defunct) and advertisements kept popping up for the motel in which the restaurant was located.

Just the nature of the beast. Don't read them if they cause you gas.
