Mac McClelland reporting for MJ on Grand Isle, LA (horrifying quotes)
From her twitter feed: http://twitter.com/MacMcClelland

1. MacMcClelland: That's it. Grand Isle is totally enveloped in gas fumes. The smell is completely nauseating and inescapable.

2. MacMcClelland: Watching oil wash up in black waves onto the northeastern island tip now. Resident just welcomed me to this "funeral."

1. They are likely also breathing in Corexit and who knows what other toxins.

9. It's like 9/11. It's impossible to believe the level of destruction
unfolding as we watch helplessly. The difference? BP execs aren't being fingered as a traitorous criminals.

10. Corexit, according to the EPA, is "carcinogenic, mutagenic, and highly toxic."

And BP already put almost a million gallons of that poison in the Gulf, and continue to do that.

What the hell is wrong with this country??? :banghead:

17. It's an effing nightmare. Are we being told the complete story , are they
holding back the reason for using this much toxin? Or is it simply that BP (which I read on DU makes COREXIT) will profit?

16. Exactly. It feels like terrifying nightmares I've had where I am being chased but
but can only run in slow motion. I wonder how it feels for people living along the coast who have derided environmentalists for years? I wonder how freepers and tea baggers down there are explaining this to themselves and each other?

4. I don't see how dispersing
the oil is going to help. Won't there simply be MORE of a toxic mess?

I f*cking hate greedy oil boyz.

7. The black tide
I have been told I must get used to it. I won't.

I have been told that I do not understand what's going on. I do.

I see my government awash in red-tape, as the black tide runs ashore.

I have people telling me that the culprits who created this are my best hope for it ending.

They tell me the world's biggest Navy, a navy that runs nuclear powered ships all over the world, underwater, can't help stop this because, well, just because.

And now I see a pubbie gov who I wouldn't let tie my shoe, taking some actions to save some areas from this black tide. He and he alone, of all the politicians, is actually putting his neck on the line?

This is one FUBAR and I really don't like anyone telling me I lack understanding.

I understand. I really do.... the destruction about to be visited upon my earth by greed, corruption and avarice, is the largest and worst FUBAR of my life.

I really wish all those out there telling me that I am wrong to voice my opinion, go down to the shore and smell the polluted air, take the polluted water into their hands, and see a part of the earth die right in front of them. Then come talk to me. Until then, please, STFU.

15. I wish I had words.
This disaster is consuming me, all the way in New England. I am not alone and you are not alone.

Now, if we can only come up with a cure. Until (and after) we are all in this together.

18. My dear friend
Edited on Sun May-23-10 10:32 PM by Oilwellian
There are many hearts aching over this disaster. Life will never be the same because of it. My husband
was born in Louisiana and as you know, I spent 13 years there. I cannot believe the entire playground
of my young adulthood (motorcycling the coastline from Louisiana to Florida) is dying before our very
eyes. I cannot stand reading the stories day in and day out, but feel compelled to continue reading in
horror the devastation unfolding before us. I'm truly at a loss for words dear Swampmeister. If you don't
mind, I'm going to turn your latest art piece into my avatar. Take care my friend.

On edit: couldn't see it as an avatar but love it as my new signature. Thanks.
