I just saw a commercial on TV for some political talk show (not sure which one), and it was advertising a conversation with Tim Kaine and Michael Steele regarding the BP oil spill. In the sound bite they played of Michael Steele, he said (paraphrasing) that the disaster (or the ensuing carnage currently happening as a result of the disaster) was Obama's fault because he didn't IMMEDIATELY step in (I believe his exact words were, "push BP out of the way") and assume control.
Now, whether or not you happen to agree with the sentiment, all I could find myself saying (actually, screaming at the TV screen) was, "Yeah, and if he did, YOU and all your goose-stepping cohorts would be all over TV yammering on about how it was yet another example of Obama's desire to take over ALL private businesses." They'd all be like, "Oh look! He's taking over the oil industry just like he took over the car industry! He's out to take over ALL private business! This is just more proof!!!"
My next thought was, "Why should Obama have 'pushed BP out of the way' and assumed control of this? After all, we all know for a fact that the private sector does EVERYTHING better than the government, don't we? Why wouldn't they do damage control and clean-up better, cheaper, and more efficiently too?"
Seems to me that Michael Steele (or as I like to call him, the best thing that ever happened to the Democratic Party) has just gone "off-script" and contradicted some pretty big Republican Party talking points. I'm absolutely CERTAIN that the "Liberal Media" will be all over this one, publicizing this fact to the very hilt, right? I mean, I'm sure you've probably ALL heard about this by now, haven't you? The Liberal Media has probably been shouting this Republican gaffe from the rooftops. They HAVE been doing that, right? Right?
OK, I found a link to the interview. I guess Steele said that Obama and "all U.S. agencies" should have stepped in "immediately." The question is asked sometime between the 3:00 and 4:00 minute mark.
