GOP Leaders Rally Against Their Own Candidate

North Carolina Republicans "have escalated an unprecedented campaign against one of their own congressional candidates," with the party chairman calling Tim D'Annunzio (R) "unfit for public office at any level," according to the Charlotte Observer.

Newly-surfaced court documents portray D'Annunzio as "a self-described religious zealot" who once called the federal government the Antichrist and told his ex-wife that he'd found the Ark of the Covenant.

D'Annunzio finished first in the May 4 primary and faces a June 22 runoff against Harold Johnson (R) in the state's 8th congressional district. The winner faces off against Rep. Larry Kissell (D-NC).

1. Kos:CT-Sen: Republicans trying to get their sane candidate out of the race
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/5/24/869507/-CT-Sen:-Republicans-trying-to-get-their-sane-candidate-out-of-the-race

Given the choice between a Vietnam War hero who could contrast nicely against Democratic nominee Richard Blumenthal, and a teabagger WWE maven, guess who Connecticut Republicans want?

Hours after former U.S. Rep. Rob Simmons announced that he will mount a primary against newly-minted GOP U.S. Senate nominee Linda McMahon, several of his supporters expressed concern about the prospect of an ongoing battle between the two.

"I'm concerned for many reasons," House Minority Leader Lawrence Cafero, R-Norwalk, said Saturday a few minutes after delivering a rousing speech to delegates at the start of this second day of the GOP 2010 Convention in Hartford <...>

Cafero was one of the first Republican leaders to publicly endorse Simmons, who lives in Stonington.

Cafero said he is focused on winning more seats in the state House of Representatives this November, and is worried about what a potentially bloody primary means for the party going forward.

Blumenthal runs much better against McMahon than Simmons, who pathetically walked around with teabags in his copy of the Constitution. But that pander was too transparent for even the morans in the GOP, and they've cast their lot with the least electable candidate.

This November could've shaped up to be a Democratic armageddon, but god bless the teabaggers, they're doing everything in their power to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
