Thom Hartmann today discussed COAGULATING the oil....product already invented . . .amazing!!
This was a brief minute or two discussion -- evidently some guy invented a product

-- NON-TOXIC -- which will coagulate oil in the ocean! Turns it into huge chunks of oil

which can be picked up!!

Even better, besides being non-toxic, after the oil is recovered, the product can be

removed and reused!!

Hartmann suggested the reason oil industry wouldn't want to do this is because it would

make the oil in the Gulf very visible!!

Amaazing, huh???

2. Can it coagulate "dispersed" oil?
I'm afraid the dispesant is creating a product that's so finely integrated into the water and the environment that it's non-cleanable and non-recoverable.

10. Which seems a really stupid idea on all counts . . . except to hide the quanity of oil
that's been spilled --

I don't know what happened to this plan, I don't know if they are trying this or not.

So hard to tell the satire from the real these days.

7. Diesel Fuel doesn't freeze...Ex Trucker
it Gels in the winter, especially up North. I know the hard way from an incident in Minnesota on a January day of -5F. I was on a Aluminum run from Appleton WI to Blaine WA (last city before British Columbia on I-5). I fueled in Wisconsin with regular #2 fuel, not treated #1 fuel that has Anti-Gel ingredients. My boss ended up paying $900 for a thaw and tow to repair/heat the engine block up to use fuel. Since Diesel and Crude Oil are not that far apart, it seems to me that Gelling would work, and it doesn't have to be cold to do it in the Gulf.

Gather the fuel blocks, take it to a refinery, superheat to liquid form, and you have aviation and/or class 8 truck fuel. It would probably be too expensive to turn it into Gasoline. And all profits from the oil can go to the fisherman and suppliers affected.

11. Sounds like it may be the same thing . . . ???
Obviously, however, we do need other plans -- preferably some that work!!

If this oil could be coagulated in some way before it hits the coastline that

would be a tremendous thing.

Would also be easier for large birds, etc. to avoid -- I think?

5. So much for the "there are no other effective solutions" meme
I hope they are allowed to get it out there ASAP!

8. If this coagulant actually works AND is non-toxic then failure to begin immediately to
use it AS the oil gushes out of the gaping wound in the crust is indefensible.

It will allow effective clean-up going forward and the monumental damage that has already been done just might be limited to that which has already occurred.

When I have more time I'll learn more about this so I can fully develop an informed opinion. There just HAS to be something we can do to stop (or minimize) the destruction.

12. I tried today to pass the info on to some in Congress . . . I have no idea of this
other than what I heard Thom Hartmann say today --

evidently the stuff is ready to go -- available.

IMO, dispersing the oil is only a good idea if you want it to penetrate every nook

and cranny of the oceans and all life in it -- and not be on the whole visible!

Again, can't vouch for any of this, but am trying to pass the info on just in case

it is something that does what Hartmann says it does do!!??
