Outnumbering the Tea Party Rally 87-to-1 .. Where's the media?
Saturday, New Jerseyans, outraged at Christie’s choice to protect the wealthiest citizens of his state rather than its schools and infrastructure, demonstrated outside the statehouse in Trenton, chanting, “We are not the problem.” Police estimated that 35,000 people took part in what quickly turned into “one of the largest protests ever in the state.”

While the protests took place, Christie was 54 miles away at a bill signing at Monmouth Park racetrack. When asked about the protesters, the governor simply dismissed them, saying, “I’m here. They’re there. Have a nice day.” “How ’bout some jobs, Governor Christie?” one woman reportedly yelled at Christie during his appearance at the track.

The massive rally is particularly significant when compared to the right-wing tea party protests, which the media have covered obessessively. At a tea party rally in Trenton last month where demonstrators gathered to protest “unchecked” government, police estimated that, at a maximum, only 400 people attended. Which means that at the very least, the protesters marching against Christie’s budget cuts and for decent investment in public infrastructure outnumbered the anti-government tea party protesters 87-to-1

2. mmmm. Guess the same place they were when I went to DC with 1,000,000 other people to march for

Women's Rights..and there was literally NO coverage. A friend of mine said she was looking all over the TV for some coverage..There was NONE!! I wrote an angry letter to the NYTimes back then because the only picture they chose to show was one of about 6 Forced Birthers holding up signs against the march!!!!!!!!

We never saw one news helicopter or news van anywhere along the way or at the end where the speeches were being given.

The media are a bunch of whores....Corporate, RWingut, repuke owned whores.

We filled the streets and the mall..end to end

8. Attention for your huge crowds has only been delayed . . .
. . . until FU News uses your crowd shot of the Mall to illustrate the next teabagger rally in D.C.

5. I share your schadenfreude. I was stunned at the results of that election.
If I lived in NJ, after that I would have moved out.

11. I'm doing all that I can to fight the guy
it's an uphill battle though especially when your state representatives are clueless Republicans (my state senator is now infamous for his speech on marriage equality).

16. I want us to
but at least wait until November to get some good House Democrats back in office. No way do I want to be represented by Michele Bachmann 2.0 or Mrs. Hedge Fund (the 2 Republicans running in the primary to unseat my Democratic congressman)

I wish people from other states would have helped us more in November. I was just in PA helping with Sestak and I told them that come 2013 we need all hands on deck to give Cory Booker the keys to Trenton.

7. You see, it is a liberal media bias
Edited on Tue May-25-10 11:22 AM by ChairmanAgnostic
Because we have a socialist, communist, fascist, Kenyan president in office, it has become MSM's job to undo the damage they themselves caused over the last eight years. They realized that they were too complacent during the Era of W, and really should have hit the Democrats harder while W was in office. Had they done so, the Democrats would and could not have won in 06 or 08. MSM's very own bias during the last administration caused great harm to MSM. And now they are working hard to correct it.

By pursuing endless stories pumping up the Tea Baggers, the MSM shows their independence from Obama's socialist, liberal anti-american ideas, and allows the real America to see this administration for what it is. Unhappy with a liberal in the White House. Even one voice, one person, one sign is worthy of coverage, because that is the real voice of the people.

TO the contrary, a bunch of uneducated, lazy, mob-like thugs angry at a great governor, is, well, just not news. If the MSM did waste time covering them, then other people might get confused and join ugly unpatriotic hordes by accident. That simply is not a choice. Besides, if MSM ignores that angry mob, it will simply go away.

It is all the Liberal media's fault. Trust me.

on edit: Having seen too many conservo-webtube sites, I realized that I could be quoting them verbatim. Using that palinesque logic makes sarcasm and snark difficult, especially when reality (Glenn's upcoming meltdown, Sarah's growing idiocy, Paul's amazing fall from grace, etc.) itself has become so fucking weird.

fox news was behind the tea party movement, as well as Dick Armey.

20. "Where's the media?" -- an excellent question!
Seems to me that 35,000 people showing up to demonstrate for an issue that is at the state level, is really pretty unusual. You'd think it might be, I dunno, news or something.

Ha ha ha. We don't have a news media, we have a corporate propaganda media.

... it appears that MSM coverage was limited to their websites (almost exclusively the local affiliates.) Not exactly no coverage, but coverage that would be (intentionally?) missed by 90% of the population. :banghead:

22. Attention please: The "media" is owned by the same interests as the T-Party
The media (meaning cable news, syndicated news and local affiliates) is NEVER going to cover things fairly. NEVER.

The sooner that more of us accept that, the sooner we can move on to do something about it. Asking the MSM to cover grass roots politics is like asking for pizza at McDonalds -- they could dish it up if they wanted to but that is just not the business that they are in.

Mainstream media is completely in the vest pocket of the Oil/Defense/Banking/Pharma/Prison/Insurance industries. And has been for a couple of decades.

If a protest is only successful if it gets TV coverage then any left of center protest is doomed by design.
