Stay Away From ‘Christians-Only’ Prison Scheme, Americans United Tells Officials In Three States

Americans United for Separation of Church and State today warned corrections officials in three states not to use public funds to send inmates to a proposed “Christians-only” prison in Oklahoma.

Corrections Concepts, Inc., has proposed building a private prison in Wakita, Okla., that will indoctrinate prisoners in fundamentalist Christianity and will be staffed solely with “born-again” Christians.

The Dallas, Texas-based firm recently announced that discussions are under way with corrections officials in Oklahoma, Kansas and California about signing contracts to house prisoners. In response, attorneys with Americans United wrote to officials in the three states, advising them that using public funds to send inmates to the sectarian facility would likely spark legal action.

Americans United asserts it would be unconstitutional for government to support a prison that indoctrinates inmates in one faith and limits hiring based on religion.

First of all I don't even think prisons should be privately run, as that gives private companies incentives to donate to politicians to make laws that create more clients. Thats one reason why we have more prisoners than any other country. Also, how can they justify only hiring Christians? Isn't that violating some law? Also what would happen if someone else got this very same idea but replaced the word Christian with atheist. That would freak the freepers the hell out? Tis has bad written all over it.

That became a worthless piece of paper about one president ago. Still in shreds. Secret prisons. Torture. Spying on private citizens. Lack of habeus corpus. All still thriving.

But it will take a generation to get the urine stains out.

The really good freaks will have their names changed, get out of jail free card, and become the new manchurian US Congressman.

For creating the "warriors for Christ" we keep hearing about, the prisoners can use their hard-earned skills toward the creative goals of fundy Christians; terrifying everyone else into submission.

I propose we build a private prison in the shape of a ginormous colander, and force-indoctrinate the prison population to worship the Lord FSM, and His Little Noodly Appendages too.

Seems like the same concept to me. Perhaps that's what they meant.

Wakita is as close to a prison without walls as you can get.

That's just fucking creepy. Privatization of Prisons is about one of the worst and creepiest ideas there is.
